Converted nave of a 1766 Grade II* listed church with original font and pulpit. Country lanes ideal for cycling and walking close by.

For a truly unique and memorable self catering holiday experience, The Old Church is a property that is hard to beat. On the site of a medieval chapel, (an incumbant is recorded as early as 1355), the present church was designed by Thomas Farnolls Pritchard, and is of sufficient architectural merit that it was included in the guides of the architectural historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner. Situated in the quiet hamlet of Hopton Cangeford, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this professionally converted nave of a 1766 Grade II* listed church still has many of the original features such as squire’s pews, oak dado panelling, font and pulpit. The mix of 21st century décor and facilities such as flat screen TVs in both the living room and bedroom, a fully fitted kitchen with hand-painted tiles and underfloor heating blends effortlessly with the original stain glass windows and architecture. The double bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom, tiled extensively with travertine and granite, providing both a shower enclosure and a Jacuzzi spa bath. If you love unusual properties then The Old Church ticks all of the boxes. You can even dine by candlelight in the vestry! You will never stay anywhere like this again and it’s a true gem hidden away in the Shropshire countryside. A once in a lifetime experience! The quiet country lanes surrounding The Old Church are ideal for walking and cycling. Just 4 miles from Ludlow, surrounded by the unspoilt hills of the Welsh Marches, this historic market town offers a medieval castle, fine restaurants and, in September, the famous Ludlow Food Festival. Visit Tenbury Wells, Ironbridge, Stokesay Castle and the breathtaking Long Mynd. Shop, pub and restaurant 4 miles.

Ground floor: Living room with double sofa bed (for alternative sleeping)/kitchen with tiled floor. Shower room with toilet. First floor: 1 double bedroom with en-suite Jacuzzi bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

Gas underfloor central heating, gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. 50’’ Freesat plasma TV. Blu-ray home cinema system and small library. Gas hob. Electric oven. Microwave. Shared utility room with washing machine. Dishwasher. Freezer. Wi-fi. Shared enclosed, lawned garden. Patio with sitting-out area and furniture. Parking (1 car). Cycle store. Welcome pack. We (my husband, dog & myself) have just returned from a lovely relaxed week at The Old Church...the peaceful rural location was a wonderful way to get away from it all. Sue & Steve(the owners) could'nt have made us feel anymore welcome and showed us around the Tower and were rightly very proud to share their stories of how they transformed the disused church into the unique beautiful holiday home it is today

If you're looking for something different this is definitely the place. Great conversion of an old church, providing all the mod cons you want but retaining the main fabric and features that make it unique - including the font, pulpit and grave stones! It's a bit off the beaten track, which we wanted, but Ludlow is just 4 miles away and it's ideally located for all the best Shropshire has to offer. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Their dog, Benson as well as their several cats and chickens likewise.

Brilliant, characterful place to stay in a beautiful part of the UK. High standard conversion and everything thought of, friendly and helpful owners too.

The Old Church is the most unique and exceptional place we have stayed. The property is both stunning and cosy, and we had everything we needed so hardly left the site. Steve and Sue have done a remarkable job restoring the property and are remarkable people. They live directly above the downstairs accommodation, which isn't explicit in the information and may not be to everyone's liking, but for us it was the icing on the cake, and we thoroughly enjoyed their stories and the tour of the tower and upstairs rooms. The chickens and cats wander freely around the property so dog owners need to be vigilant, but it is a small price to pay for such a charming addition to the holiday. A memorable and delightful stay, would highly recommend.
