I stayed here while visiting relatives. It was perfect. I got a great welcome. I arrived to a lovely warm cottage with fresh milk in the fridge and tea and biscuits. I'm a bit of a clean freak and I couldn't fault this property. Very very clean. Beds were lovely and comfortable. Perfect stay for me 3 kids and my big friendly dog. Set right in the sticks perfect if you like walks and quiet yet in easy reach of all the amenities of Chelmesford. I would certainly stay here again!

A really fine property, with kind and and attentive hosts. The only reason I would not go back is that I like to visit a new place every holiday!

A beautiful, tranquil place to get away from it all while not being too far away from local amenities! Very well equipped and set in beautiful countryside. I really enjoyed the opportunity for rest and reflection.

The Property is remote and offline, but yet close to places of interest good eateries and the City of Chelmsford. Clean and well presented the property is on one level but offers little to entertain families so bring your own games and vidoes. It is one of two self catering properties on a farm with other residential lets close by. The owner is friendly, attentive, helpful and easily contactable. A vehicle is a must to get the best from this location.

The Old Calf House is a delightful and charming house in a beautiful rural area. If you really want to get away from it this is ideal. We took the kids away for a weekend break, hired bikes, went for long walks and visited Clacton-on-Sea, which was about 25 miles away as we got lucky with some hot weather. You absolutely do need a car with a good sat nav. We'll definitely be back.

We have had several cottage holidays now and The Calf House rates as one of the best. It is ideally located if you want to 'get away from it all', although people who enjoy the night-life might find it bit too remote. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Many cottages rely on night storage heating which is pretty ineffective in a cold snap. The Calf House has gas central heating and this kept us very warm and comfortable Some reviewers have commented on poor mobile phone and internet signals but we are on the Three network and had not difficulties with either.

It was a lovely cottage and a great base for us to use to see family in the area. Lots of space for a little one to have his toys out. The sofas in the living room could have been more comfortable.
