Description

The Moorings simply has it all; beautifully presented rooms, fantastic location overlooking the River Teign and plenty to do nearby.

Situated just ½-mile from the sandy beach, this detached holiday property enjoys a wonderful panoramic outlook over the River Teign and the countryside beyond. Decorated and furnished to a very good standard, it offers an ideal base with views over the river Teign from the balcony. There are French doors leading to the garden. Situated within walking distance of Shaldon centre, it is well placed for a range of shopping facilities in addition to inns and restaurants. Leisure activities here are very much water based with sailing, angling, swimming and diving available either in the River Teign or from the coves and beaches nearby. The Ness headland watches proudly over the mouth of the estuary, guarding the waters between Shaldon and the busy Victorian town of Teignmouth. The river beach and estuary will delight visitors, not to mention the famous Shaldon ferry which plies the river to Teignmouth throughout the day. The children will love the sandy beaches reached through Smugglers Tunnel. Both Dartmoor National Park and Exeter are only 20 minutes’ drive away while the famous South Devon Coast, with wonderful sandy beaches, is barely 3 miles. Exeter and Newton Abbot Racecourses, several golf courses, loads of family theme parks, Paignton zoo, sailing and fishing are all within easy reach. Numerous NT properties are close by including Agatha Christie’s Greenway. Steam trains travel from Kingswear to Paignton and Totnes to Buckfastleigh. Visit historic Dartmouth with a bustling boat harbour and a castle, or Salcombe with its beaches, sailing and watersports is also easily accessible. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

A brilliant house for 3 families (6 adults, 7 children and a dog). The house was well heated, kitchen well stocked including a good sized American fridge freezer, excellent laundry room, great 2 lounges etc. The owners provided a scrummy welcome pack, who needs tea bags, milk etc when they provide a bottle of bubbly, local biscuits and fudge and homemade lemonade! The only negative was the number, and accessibility of the bathrooms to share out. One family bathroom c/w bath etc was an en-suite. The other family bathroom is accessible to all (downstairs near a good double and a good twin), but the final bathroom is in the downstairs extension (near a double, queen and single) and is effectively a downstairs loo..the shower is tiny and the room itself is snug! On arrival you need to unravel a conundrum for who has what room to match kids using a parents' ensuite. So in short, one family uses the ensuite and 2 families share the other bathroom with the 3rd bathroom as a spare loo.

Fantastic property! Large, clean and very well equipped! Lovely big kitchen and living areas with great views from both balconys! We were a large group of friends celebrating a birthday and it was just what we needed! Would Definately recommend and would stay again! All locals very friendly, it is located in a nice village with a lot to do and nice pubs in the surrounding area!

Nice sized cottage to get together with friends. Bathrooms were a problem as there was not enough for the people staying. Carpets were very stained. Kitchen and dining facilities were limited eg. Table too small. Plates did not fit in dishwasher. Insufficient amount of cutlery. Lovely views from upstairs. Good to have two sitting rooms. Heating and hot water were excellent.

The best equipped kitchen, sieve, trifle bowls etc that we have ever booked. The major issue, and we knew this before we booked, was the very limited number of bathrooms and in particular toilets. There is a landing area on the top floor which is crying out to be used as at least a loo. We were delighted with everything else.

fabulous house, location, garden etc. only downside would be lack of toilet/ bathroom facilities for number of guests and garden furniture was in need of an upgrade.

Fantastic place to stay, we are going to book for next year to go with family. The only thing I would change is to put blinds and curtains in upstairs lounge and bedroom as the sunrise wakes you up.

Generally well equipped house with a beautiful setting and tremendous views over the river estuary. Garden and toys good for children (ours between 1 and 4 years old). Only equipment comment - would have appreciated more king size beds cf standard doubles.

Lovely property but could do with another bathroom upstairs. Loved the upstairs living room. Must be wonderful in the summer.

We stated for a weekend in February with our group of friends consisting of 9 adults and 4 children (2 of which are babies). We found The Moorings very comfortable, it has a well equipped kitchen, plenty of space for 13 of us. It has two separate lounge areas which is ideal when the kids want to play games and watch TV away from the adults. Beautiful views from the upstairs lounge with large glass patio windows opening out onto the balcony. The owners left out a lovely hamper for our arrival. 10 min walk into Shaldon where there are plenty of coffee shops to choose from. Highly recommend a visit.

Found heating inadequate for the cold weather. Bedrooms fine but open plan living quarters cold. Very thin walls to some bedrooms so bad privacy. bathrooms could have been better, Downstairs bathroom tiny! No bathroom upstairs just ensuite. So other guests had to use wc downstairs. larger towels would have been welcome. Overall thought cost was high. Garden could do with tidying. Batteries in remote controls appeared flat. Trouble changing channels.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback, we value any comments given and apologise that our property was not to your taste. It is visible on the photographs that the living area is open planned – it is an exposed contemporary open planned area that was designed specifically for this. The walls are built in accordance with the current building regulations. With regards to the heating, I visited the property prior to your arrival to provide the luxury hamper filled with local produce and a large bottle of champagne and at this current time the property was certainly warm; it was the coldest weekend of the year and if we had been notified we would of done our utmost to attend to your needs. We provide additional batteries for the remote control in the kitchen and will advertise this in the welcome pack in future. The property is always checked for cleanliness on the day of arrival. There is a large family bathroom on the ground floor with a corner bath, additionally there is an en suite bathroom upstairs with a Jacuzzi and a small shower room/W.C on the lower ground floor – we feel that this is ample for the size of the property. We supply hand and bath towels however we will take your comments on board.
