Description

The Moorings simply has it all; beautifully presented rooms, fantastic location overlooking the River Teign and plenty to do nearby.

Situated just ½-mile from the sandy beach, this detached holiday property enjoys a wonderful panoramic outlook over the River Teign and the countryside beyond. Decorated and furnished to a very good standard, it offers an ideal base with views over the river Teign from the balcony. There are French doors leading to the garden. Situated within walking distance of Shaldon centre, it is well placed for a range of shopping facilities in addition to inns and restaurants. Leisure activities here are very much water based with sailing, angling, swimming and diving available either in the River Teign or from the coves and beaches nearby. The Ness headland watches proudly over the mouth of the estuary, guarding the waters between Shaldon and the busy Victorian town of Teignmouth. The river beach and estuary will delight visitors, not to mention the famous Shaldon ferry which plies the river to Teignmouth throughout the day. The children will love the sandy beaches reached through Smugglers Tunnel. Both Dartmoor National Park and Exeter are only 20 minutes’ drive away while the famous South Devon Coast, with wonderful sandy beaches, is barely 3 miles. Exeter and Newton Abbot Racecourses, several golf courses, loads of family theme parks, Paignton zoo, sailing and fishing are all within easy reach. Numerous NT properties are close by including Agatha Christie’s Greenway. Steam trains travel from Kingswear to Paignton and Totnes to Buckfastleigh. Visit historic Dartmouth with a bustling boat harbour and a castle, or Salcombe with its beaches, sailing and watersports is also easily accessible. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

This is a stunning property with amazing views over the estuary. Bright, clean and spacious - easily held 14 of us with many rooms / spaces to escape for a bit of peace _ lovely out door spaces too. There is so much to do in this area - great walks, beautiful beaches and fabulous places to eat. The owner owns a lovely sandwich / pasty / ice cream shop in Sheldon and was always on hand to chat to or answer any queries. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here - stuff for kids of all ages to do (outdoor lido, safe beaches, rock pools and amusement arcades and crazy golf) and every where is both kid and dog friendly v- have never stayed anywhere so friendly and welcoming !!

Large house that was comfortable and well equipped for the size of our party, but a few things where annoying number one being absolutely no internet access. The owners were contacted on day one and we were told it was an intermittent service however this was not the case, the router was rebooted on a regular basis and not once did we get broadband which is an absolute requirement in present times. The High Chair supplied was inadequate and gave us a problem feeding a one year old. On a minor point instructions for working the Range and an additional house key (only one supplied for 14 people!) would have been beneficial. Excluding the above annoyances we all did have a wonderful holiday and the house was good re space, layout and equipment supplied.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately the problem with the internet was a problem due to BT and therefore outside of our control. The highchair was purchased from Mothercare and we would have been more than happy to replace it had we known. The comfort of our guests is very important to us and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay.

8 adults and 8 children between ages of 6 weeks and 14 years. Playroom perfect, huge TV (14 year olds spent evenings here) and boxes of toys for younger ones while we adults were upstairs enjoying the amazing views and chilling out. Kitchen big enough to seat us all. Children also loved the garden. We had a wonderful weekend - a good Christmas present for the whole family!

This is a great cottage, in a great location. The only minor drawback is the arrangements of the upstairs bedrooms. There is an ensuite bathroom off one of the three bedrooms upstairs, but otherwise the only bathroom is downstairs - quite a trek if you need the bathroom during the night! That said, there is a fabulous seating area upstairs with a fantastic balcony and stunning view.

A brilliant house for 3 families (6 adults, 7 children and a dog). The house was well heated, kitchen well stocked including a good sized American fridge freezer, excellent laundry room, great 2 lounges etc. The owners provided a scrummy welcome pack, who needs tea bags, milk etc when they provide a bottle of bubbly, local biscuits and fudge and homemade lemonade! The only negative was the number, and accessibility of the bathrooms to share out. One family bathroom c/w bath etc was an en-suite. The other family bathroom is accessible to all (downstairs near a good double and a good twin), but the final bathroom is in the downstairs extension (near a double, queen and single) and is effectively a downstairs loo..the shower is tiny and the room itself is snug! On arrival you need to unravel a conundrum for who has what room to match kids using a parents' ensuite. So in short, one family uses the ensuite and 2 families share the other bathroom with the 3rd bathroom as a spare loo.

Nice sized cottage to get together with friends. Bathrooms were a problem as there was not enough for the people staying. Carpets were very stained. Kitchen and dining facilities were limited eg. Table too small. Plates did not fit in dishwasher. Insufficient amount of cutlery. Lovely views from upstairs. Good to have two sitting rooms. Heating and hot water were excellent.

fabulous house, location, garden etc. only downside would be lack of toilet/ bathroom facilities for number of guests and garden furniture was in need of an upgrade.

The best equipped kitchen, sieve, trifle bowls etc that we have ever booked. The major issue, and we knew this before we booked, was the very limited number of bathrooms and in particular toilets. There is a landing area on the top floor which is crying out to be used as at least a loo. We were delighted with everything else.
