Description

Situated in the heart of Greystoke, this beautifully presented cottage is the ideal base to explore the Lake District National Park.

The Lodge, built in 1868, retains many of its original features, while the kitchen, bathroom and heating have been tastefully updated. The cottage is situated in the heart of Greystoke, a popular and pretty small village in the Eden Valley. The Lodge is the old gatehouse to the Greystoke Castle Estate, and the cottage has 4 separate gardens, with a pond. Very smart and well-maintained property, surprisingly so for one that accepts dogs. Great to be able to take the dog out of the back gate into some woods - and even beyond into the near part of the Greystoke estate (we were told to stay the cottage side of the castle). The pub allows dogs too! Having the wood-burning stoves is a nice touch, but the conservatory / dining room was a bit cold in the low temperatures of the week we were there. It would be a nice place to eat otherwise. Altogether - very good.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would certainly return. We would recommend it to someone visiting the area. Peaceful location but handy for visiting the lakes and surrounding areas.
