We had a lovely 2 night break away. Great location, beautiful scenery and very relaxing. The Lodge is an ideal place to go to recharge your batteries as the saying goes. We highly recommend a visit and wouldn't hesitate a return in the future. The only suggestion we would make is to have a sign on the gate so that you know you are at the right place

Absolutely perfect and stunning views. Was lovely to have a break away from the children. Felt at home and couldn't have asked for anywhere better. Thank you to the owners for giving us a perfect break.

The lodge was really homely and clean, had everything we needed for a quiet, relaxing getaway. We did not use the hot tub and there was no instruction manual and I was not comfortable leaving it on overnight and was not aware it needed so long to heat up. We would definitely stay again

We had to put the oven on for warmth. With adequate heating I would have scored it much higher. location however out of this world. Loved it.

The cottage was not ready when we arrived and there was no signal to ring the owner. They lived nearby so we went and it was sorted out very quickly. It was a lovely weekend and we would have liked to open both patio doors as the photograph showed but one was locked with no key. However, neither of these issues spoilt the weekend and we would be happy to return.

Our stay at The Lodge was a very enjoyable. It is in a lovely location, that is to say well away from everything - which needs to be thought about when it comes to food shopping. It is spacious and equipped well enough for a short stay. The main room is very nice with a large open-plan kitchen, dining area and comfortable couch. The bedroom has a double bed, bedside cabinets and a wardrobe (which I'll come back to) and the bathroom is roomy and much bigger than I was expecting for this type to accommodation. The Lodge is simply decorated and having read previous comments the owners have obviously taken on many of those comments and spent time and money up-grading and giving it that TLC that had been spoken about - well done! That having been said there are just a few small points that I hope that the owners would appreciate me pointing out. The wardrobe in the bedroom needs a good looking at as it sways from side-to-side when you open the door. We where a bit worried about hanging too much in it. A few small nails in the back to make it ridged will soon fix that. One of the rings on the cooker doesn't work - not too big an issue for a short stay when only cooking the odd meal as the other three rings work fine. The Lodge would benefit from a bit more heating when the weather is cooler. The first night we stayed it was very cool and the small heater didn't really warm the place up much. However later in summer this would not be an necessity. I hope that these few VERY MINOR adverse comments don't deter anyone from booking as it is a really nice place, secluded and over-looking a pond, next to meadows and fields full of wildlife such as hares, grouse, pheasant, even a visiting heron. It would be lovely to re-visit here again.

We wanted a 3 night break over Easter and this lodge looked just perfect on the website......then we got there and saw it for real. It was really filthy dirty and appeared not to have been cleaned for weeks/months. Not just a bit of dust but dirt, grime, filth, debris everywhere... 1. The shower soap tray was caked with dried on soap/splashes from previous occupants 2. The shower had dark/black hairs in the base from previous occupants 3. The microwave had lots of food debris under the door and inside 4. The windows in the doors looking out over the pond were very dirty obstructing the view 5. Splashed wall with food/drink spillages 6. The mirrors in the kitchen and bathroom were heavily splashed and marked 7. Lots of dust on all surfaces which had clearly built up over a long period of time covering furniture, ledges, top of picture frames, ornaments/flowers, side lights, the tv and Sky box, curtain rails, curtains 8. Very dusty under the bed and very dusty on the curtain & rails in bedroom 9. Lots of urine stains and ‘stuck’ fluff/dust to front of toilet bowl 10. Dead twigs/flowers in stagnant brown water in a vase Plus there were lots of maintenance problems... 11. Poor decorative finish to paintwork e.g. door frames and skirting boards 12. Hole in ceiling in bathroom and hole behind sink 13. The shower sealant was dirty at the bottom and some of the tile grout was also dirty 14. The website says the Lodge has a “wooden floor” – it is in fact cheap wood effect lino 15. Lino was ripped in 2 places including a hole under it in one place creating a trip hazard 16. The door and frame to the bedroom was unfinished (not painted) 17. A window handle was broken/missing by the tv 18. The trickle vents in the living area are stuffed with dirty tissue 19. The floor mat in the bedroom was very old and dirty 20. The microwave had a PAT test label saying last done in August 2009 21. One of the deckchairs was ripped and completely unusable 22. One of the website photos showed a chiminea but there wasn’t one 23. A lightbulb needed replacing in the inner tall light by the entrance door 24. The wardrobe in the bedroom was very wobbly and the bedstead posts were loose/broken 25. Oven/hob extractor light not working and one hob ring not working 26. Shower door did not shut properly We did phone Cottages4u who were very helpful and got the owners to send someone to clean twice. However after both attempts, a wasted day and one uncomfortable night, it was still dirty so after phoning Cottages4u again we went home. They did give us a full refund but what was most annoying is that there was no apology from the owners and in fact most of what we found has been previously noted in Reviews by other clients. Clearly the owners had ignored these comments and done nothing to improve or address the problems in this lodge. We will NEVER go back to this lodge and we wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the owner; I am sorry that you felt that your stay was so disappointing. We sent two separate cleaners in on two separate occasions during your one night stay. Both of whom said it was a little dusty on the curtain poles and the lamp shade but did not feel that it was dirty in the toilet or shower areas. There was a small bar of soap left in the dish but everywhere had been bleached, which is normal after each changeover. The Lodge this is on a working farm so there is possibly more dust than a city boutique hotel. It is in the nature of the location, it is a rural lodge which is kept clean. There is water very close with a fountain so when the wind blows in a certain direction there will be a certain amount of mist bringing with it dust. We have many repeat bookings and lots of really nice comments in our visitor’s book stating that people will recommend it to friends, be back soon even that they will be booking for Christmas which indeed we do have people staying over Christmas. We do however welcome all constructive feedback in order to maintain our property to its highest standards.
