    Love this place, we have been before and it's a real retreat. The views are amazing whatever the weather and we find we really unwind and relax a really comfortable living area and fully equipped kitchen. Will definitely go back.

    View from the Patio is OK.....but little else of merit, cannot believe this property has been awarded a gold star... to say we deflated is an understatement.

    Response on behalf of the owner; I have rented my property out for many years and virtually all reviews are extremely positive. It is very disappointing that you claim to have had such an unpleasant time during your visit to 'The Library'. It was reported to me (I live in Edinburgh so cannot get along to the property immediately if there is any problem, though my cleaner lives fairly nearby) that the 'guest' had tripped on an internal step at the property, sometime after his arrival, and was very annoyed about this. The step has been there for over 10 years (since I renovated the property), and is clearly distinct as it is a transition from a dark wood floor in the lounge to the light wood floor of the raised (about 12-15 cm) dining area and is documented in the property ‘access statement’. No other guest has, as far as I'm aware, ever reported a problem with this step. A reason suggested to me that you may have tripped was because 'half the lights in the property were out'. After you left the property (2 days later) I had an electrician visit the property. Of the (approximately) 25 spotlights in the kitchen, bedrooms and dining area, 2 were out. The lounge area is perfectly adequately lit (and the lounge is flooded with sunlight from 9.30am - 10pm during summertime). Bulbs are available in the lounge cupboard or alternatively, guests can phone the agency or my cleaner and ask to have bulbs changed if required. Unfortunately, bulbs do go from time to time and it is impossible for me or my cleaner to stay on top of every 'blown' bulb. We rely on guests to advise us if things aren't working. Also, on this occasion, the cooker hood light had gone too. This was also easily changed the next day by the electrician. You listed complaints such as dust behind the sofa and that the back door was sticking (it had been raining heavily -I had a joiner plane this down though he said it really wasn't necessary). That the towel rail was free-standing and not attached to the wall and that the plug socket for the hairdryer is not immediately adjacent to the dressing table (it’s about 1 foot away). The lounge sofa was facing inwards towards the open fire rather than out towards the view and that the sofa cushions were too soft. There is a turn in the steps to the kitchen (there is, I can’t change that -again documented in the access statement), that he found the slate tiles on the kitchen steps slippy (there is a handrail), that a kitchen tile was loose (it wasn’t) etc. Unfortunately, when my cleaner went to clean the property after your departure, the sheets in the main bedroom appeared to be soiled therefore the bedding and mattress had to be disposed of. You also described the view as 'OK'. The view is spectacular as hundreds of guests over the years will attest to. It was my main reason for buying the property.

    Beautiful home and location, not the 'generic' type of place you would normally find yourself in. Views out of the window and patio area are wonderful. Very quiet and peaceful holiday.
