We really enjoyed our stay at The Hill. The cottage is in a great position for the beach, which my daughter and the dog really enjoyed. There isn’t lots to do locally, you’ll need to be prepared to drive to enjoy days out. The cottage itself is bigger than we expected, so that’s a bonus. It’s clean and tidy, and we had all we needed. The toilet in the upstairs bathroom is a little tricky to get to for taller people like me, due to the sloping roof, however there is a downstairs loo, so it’s not a major issue! Overall, we enjoyed the cottage, and would recommend.

The Hill is a well equipped and deceptively spacious cottage in Allonby. The size of the rooms was surprising and as a group of 5 we had plenty of room. The beds were all comfortable, the TV had Netflix which was a bonus and the internet worked very well. The stove was a challenge to get going, but once it was going it kept the house very warm, but there was decent enough heating if you didn't want to light the stove. The kitchen was equipped sufficiently to cook light meals, but the pans were not good enough for anything beyond that, but luckily we'd planned to eat out a fair bit, considering the options in Allonby are good. Maryport is a short drive away, where there is a supermarket and lovely museums. One thing you should note that the area outside described as a garden, is not, it is a yard with concrete, which meant I had to take my dogs out to toilet as they will only 'go' on grass, that was a big disappointment. Fortunately there is grass directly outside and the beach is obviously just around the back of the house. Allonby has great options eating out and we thoroughly recommend Jack's Surf bar, where you can take kids and dogs and also The Codfather for the largest fish and chips I think we've ever had!!

We had a lovely holiday. Weather was a bit iffy some of the time. Restful, comfortable, warm and well equipped are the words I would use to describe the accommodation. The only problem was some of my clothes got left there and we cannot get in touch with anybody to sort out the problem. Also nobody has got in touch with us to say they have found any clothes.

Great cottage in a small village right on the beach. Really well equipped and very comfortable. Village has a nice coffee shop / cafe, pub and fish and chip shop. Keswick and Carlisle are a 40 minute drive and Dumfries a little further. Only slight negative is the backyard which is a small paved area surrounded by run down buildings

Overall the cottage is comfortable and well equipped. Bedrooms are spacious and bright. Location right by the beach is excellent. However, there are patches of damp in the living room, the second living room is dark and smells of damp and the rear courtyard overlooks a derelict house. The information folder in the cottage is poor, e.g no information about the heating, which sadly given the weather and dampness in cottage left us cold until we found the thermostat.
