Description

Pretty Grade II listed granary set in a small courtyard with many characterful features including beamed ceilings and arched windows.

Ideally located between the Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland Heritage coastline, this Grade II listed granary offers comfortable holiday accommodation in the pretty unspoilt village of Glanton. One of a row and set in a shared courtyard, the property retains much character with beamed ceilings and arched windows. An ideal base from which to explore the many magnificent castles peppered throughout the area including the majestic castle and water gardens in Alnwick. The friendly local market towns and villages offer superb hospitality, and seafood is a speciality in the coastal towns of Seahouses and Craster. Nearby Wooler is known as the Gateway to the Cheviots and was the inspiration for Postman Pat’s Greendale. A beautiful area centrally located for the North East. Easy driving distance to all main attractions. Shops 10 yards.

When we first arrived we thought this is a pretty cottage and we should be comfortable here. Unfortunately however there were a number of problems which we found on arrival and other problems cropped up during our stay. When we reported the problems a number were addressed the next day, but not always successfully (lights on the stairwell that did not work were replaced, but lights in the kitchen that did not work were not addressed and the very stiff taps in the kitchen that were almost impossible to turn on were not improved with WD40 and the offer of a plumber was left until after our departure). One evening there was a smoke alarm problem downstairs, not due to any smoke problem but a mal-function. The proprietress and her husband both refused to come out as it was almost 9pm and just suggested that we try to take it off the ceiling and take out the battery which turned out to be impossible, even though I had to stand on a chair to try to do it. This alarm was supposedly connected by wires to a second detector upstairs, but this turned out to have been faulty and had been removed previously. Also during our stay when we showered in the bathroom, water seeped through the floor through the ceiling into the kitchen below and some attempt to apply more sealant to the bath by the owner did not solve the problem. Then it transpired that the toilet seat had been cracked previously and was becoming a danger. The owner said that she had noticed it was cracked and was going to deal with it when we had gone. There were more minor problems which are not worth mentioning here but in general the problems did detract from the enjoyment of the holiday accommodation.
