Enjoy great walks on the Blackdown Hills, and with the cathedral city of Exeter anf Hugh Fernley Whittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen close by.

In a glorious setting in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and between Honiton and Chard, lie The Barns around a cobbled yard. Both detached holiday barn conversions are decorated and furnished to a good standard and have their own gardens and fabulous views across the countryside. Situated in the grounds of the owner’s Grade II listed, medieval farmhouse, they are in an excellent location from which to explore numerous National Trust houses, great walks and the cathedral city of Exeter. Also within easy driving distance is the famous World Heritage Coast, as well as the seaside resorts of Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Beer, Branscombe and Exmouth. Situated between both Dartmoor and Exmoor National parks, both with brilliant walks, heather clad tors, ponies, rugged terrain and quaint villages. Within six miles there are local family run shops and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen. Shops 21/2 miles and pub 1½ miles.

    Beautiful location , very well equipped , would of been a big plus if the village pub had still been open because 5 mile drive out of narrow lanes little bit scarey ! But over all was a lovely weeks holiday in an area of outstanding beauty

    Very disappointed with extreme remote location, on entering the Hayloft it was extremely noticeable that there was an awful smell in property,I think that it hadn't been aired enough and it was a smell of damp!!!! Very off putting as it clung to all our clothes and every single item taken had to be laundered on our return home. One car track road to get to property very daunting and people should be made aware of this extremely stressful !!!!!

    Response on behalf of the owner; I am sorry that the property had a damp smell which we hoped had been temporarily dealt with while we awaited professional help. Before receiving this review we had instigated specialised help to deal with the problem. It is a lovely old building with solid stone walls and needed professional help in the bedroom which has now been completed. It has subsequently been freshly painted and the contents cleaned again too. The property has had many years of use by happy holiday makers and we hope that it will now return to being enjoyed by our guests. We were pleased to see that these visitors gave us 10 for Comfort and Equipment and 10 for Cleanliness, as this experience has been a distressing one for us too, as we have tried hard to retain a good standard.

    Lovely cottage very clean, DVDs and toys for children lots of beds! Beautiful location but unfortunately nothing to do nearby.

    The hayloft was very comfortable and in a terrific location for walking the Blackdown Hills. We had a warm and friendly welcome from the owner. She was very informative and non-intrusive. The Hayloft was equipped to a very high specification, even to the luxury of underfloor heating. Wonderful views from the window and peace and quiet all around, The two nearest pubs unfortunately had closed down , but there are lots of pubs in the area serving fine food and good beer.
