Description

This apartment is brimming with history and character, as it was once the granary in the steading of Duntulm Castle.

Historical base

Monkstadt became the seat of the Clan Macdonald in 1730 when they abandoned Duntulm Castle. Nearby are servants’ houses and a steading which includes a granary stable, cartshed and a mill with horse walk. Monkstadt has played a romantic role in highland history. The stables and Granary have been sympathetically converted into first class holiday accommodation. This single storey corner apartment, accessed via a 1 mile track, is ideal for exploring the mysterious Isle of Skye. Flora Macdonalds monument and ruined Duntulm Castle are nearby. The Quirang and Old Man of Storr encourage walkers and climbers whilst the beauty, wildlife and various outdoor pursuits appeal to all groups. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

17 steps to entrance. All on one level: Living/dining room/kitchen. 1 double bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Electric central heating and electricity included (by meter reading October-April). Bed linen and towels included. Stereo/CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Garden furniture. Parking (1 car). No children.

Perfect place to stay, cosy, the location is perfect (if you're looking for a place far away from big cities with sheep as neighbours :)), and it's cosy and comfortable. Beware of the access road : the last half-mile is a track, no need of a 4*4 but it can be a bit impressive if you're not used to it.

The living room and kitchen area are well laid out. The bedroom is OK but with low rafter roofs so we hit our heads a few times. The shower room is cramped, again with low roof. There is good heating and ventilation - our wet clothes dried easily. The instructions for the cooker dont give the info you need. The blind in the bedroom needs to be fixed properly. Many of the lights weren't working, but there were replacement lights. The settees need replacing as does the mattress on the bed. The house is in a charming place. But the driveway is in bad need of repair. We were warned about this, and I dont mind driving in rough places, but this was much worse than I expected - it took 10 minutes to drive to the house from road - I got this down to 8 minutes but it was a challenge every time. It would so improve the experience of living here to fill in the holes in the driveway.

Have stayed before and nothing has changed as the property still requires all the tlc previous reviews have highlighted. But we would stay here again without a moments hesitation as the location is superb and we feel this compensates for the flaws, most of which are minor.
