This attractive detached house set in the owner’s grounds provide spacious holiday accommodation situated at the end of a mile-long lane in glorious rural surroundings. Pet friendly and offering a plethora of walks on the doorstep, the cottage offers good quality linen and towels and a superb self catering base. There is a public footpath leading off the owner’s drive providing miles of walks across open countryside. A trip to picturesque Rye enables visitors to sample local foods at the Wednesday morning farmers market which is held at Strand Quay. By taking a stroll along the cobbled streets, there is also the chance to buy a memento from one of the many independently-owned shops and boutiques, art galleries and potteries - or even start Christmas shopping from the wide selection of goods available! Also worth a visit are Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Camber Sands and Camber Castle – this area of saltmarsh protects some very special wildlife, and footpaths lead to four birdwatching hides. The picturesque market town of Battle makes for an enjoyable day out, as well as Hastings, the Sealife Centre and Pevensey Castle (where the Romans invaded). The area is also well known for its local vineyards including Chapel Down and Sedlescombe. A trip to Tenterden - often referred to as the Jewel of the Weald - is an alternative and, for garden lovers, Sissinghurst (NT) is not to be missed. Further National Trust places to visit include Smallhythe Place, Scotney Castle and Bodiam Castle. Day trips to France are possible with the Channel Tunnel a mere 30-minute drive. An excellent sky venue for astrology, photography, or just wishing on a star. Shops 1½ miles, pub 1 mile.

    A beautiful property in a lovely rural setting. This is a good location for getting away from a busy life. It's quiet accept for the donkeys and horses next door! it has everything you could need for a great stay, including a lovely fire. The stairs that lead up to the kitchen area could do with a stair gate as it isn't child friendly. With dogs staying with us they can get out from the 'secure' garden, however the area is remote so not a huge problem! Really enjoyable stay, thank you !

    Fabulous holiday, beautiful location and great to find a cottage with enough room for two couples and two toddlers. Rural feeling drive but rocked the toddlers off to sleep well :-) We loved the table football, pool and log burner and the toddlers loved the space to run around and play. Thank you. Ps a well fixed stairgate might be a welcome addition to an otherwise brilliant property.

    It was an ideal set up for our is lovely and well equipped. ..a little bit dusty but we all know what dust is like!! Lane is long and bumpy but not a problem to us and pot holes were filled whilst we were there as there had been a lot of rain. Knob missing from wardrobe door but did not spoil our time there. Lots of games supplied.

    In many ways this was a good cottage for our family gathering, but in other ways it did not live up to the mark. For example, it was spacious with the welcome addition of a pool table and table football in the living area, but there was a general feeling that only minimal and hasty cleaning had been done before our arrival (peanuts on the floor in the living room, mouldy bread in the bread bin). Overall, however, we felt it was a comfortable rental for our group. As far as equipment was concerned, it was a mixed bag. For example, while the supply of table crockery in the kitchen was excellent, there was a lack of suitable bowls for use in the microwave or sufficient pots for use on the cooker hob. As the location of the property is such that occupants (up to 8) are more likely to be using the cooking facilities rather than eating out, this restriction posed a few problems. In my view, it is not the responsibility of guests to be monitoring the state of cleanliness of a property (the owner had asked me to inform him if there were any problems as he didn't want to read about them in the reviews), but the owner should ensure that there is appropriate supervision of the cleaning of the property and replacement/supply of sufficient equipment for, in this case, a group of 8 people.

    Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. With regards to cleaning we had just employed a new Company and instant feedback would have been very useful. I agree that ultimately it is our responsibility and we try our best with the one hour after the cleaners have finished checking a 2000 sq. property. With regards to the pots and pans these have been replaced. We ask you to call us if there is a problem, not because we don’t want you to write on the internet, but because we want to rectify any problems so you can have the best possible holiday.

    The Granary was a lovely place to stay for the weekend - great building, lovely and quiet and catered well for our girls weekend with 7 girls staying. Lovely big kitchen , comfortable bedrooms and plenty of bathrooms - although to have one directly off the kitchen was a little odd. Nice spacious lounge with log burner - made it really cosy. The only thing I would say was that the mile long rough road that led to the Granary was a bit unexpected. It did put us off venturing out too frequently and staying in the winter meant we did not want to walk to the pub in the evening and no taxis would come to pick us up. Overall, a nice cottage to rent and would recommend to friends.

To combat this we have a contractor who comes once a month to repair the pot holes. We are surprised about the taxis as we constantly have them come and go. We wish you would have called us as we could have arranged one for you.

    The Granary was perfect in a lovely location, handy to drive to so many places. However the dirt track to get to it (which I used every day) was really bumpy and lots of pot holes (not good for cars). I had my elderly mother with me of 91 and this certainly didn't do much for her back. A shame as there was everything at the Granary and owners left milk and cakes for our arrival.

    Very enjoyable stay, clean and comfortable, some attention needed around the windows, patio doors, these were covered in cobwebs but it was early in the season so these may not have been opened this year,

    The Granary was ideal for us as a family plus our dogs. We had a fantastic time, the countryside was so beautiful the wild flowers and the bluebell woods. We would love to stay there again, it is very well equipped and furnished to a high standard. It has left us with some very happy memories.

    The cottage is in a beautiful location and has a really nice layout with easy access to go explore. Sadly we did find the cottage a bit dirty and what made that worse was there were no cleaning products to be found anywhere not even toilet bleach, I would expect for such a large property to have some cleaning products available. Plus some minor issues like the taps dripping and down stairs toilet working as and when it chose to. The main disappointment was the garden was not secure. We even telephoned before we booked to confirm the garden was fully enclosed as I have a deaf dog and we were told it was fully secure, there is no gate seperating the front and back of the cottage so it is just open and at the front is a farm gate (which does nothing to keep a dog in) and the left side of the garden had patches of fencing and patches of very low wire fencing (approx 2foot high), which leads into a field of horses ( I discovered chasing my dog across the field) so sadly we could not relax in the lovely garden or have patio doors open which did take the enjoyment out of the accommodation somewhat.

    Response on behalf of the owner; We are disappointed to hear that you have not fully enjoyed your stay with us at The Granary. In reference to your comments regarding the garden, we can confirm that it fully enclosed by a fence however, a hole had recently been made, possibly by the horses in the adjoining field. This has now been fixed. There is a 5 bar gate toward the front of the property and it is unfortunate your dog was able to get through this however had we been aware, we could of resolved this issue easily. With regard to the cleaning products, we do not leave any in the property for health and safety reasons. If a guest is unhappy with any aspects of the cleaning, we are more than happy to re clean any areas. We ask all of our guests to highlight any issue, however small, during their stay rather than waiting until they return home, so we can take immediate action. Had we been notified at the time of your dissatisfaction, we would have then been in a position to rectify the problems.
