Our stay at the Granary was wonderful. A quaint little cottage surrounded by woodland and wildlife. The accommodation provides everything you need and more. The hot tub was a special touch but I would say needed a clean more frequently. Sue has a gift in welcoming people and couldn't have done more for us. Thanks very much!

This has the potential to be a lovely property and is set in a fantastic setting, the problem is it is now in need of a serious injection of money to refresh and renew what Appears to have been there since their gold award (2004?). We had picked this for the wifi, (I had just spent the previous week in the highlands in a no wifi cottage) please do not make the same mistake, while you will find a welcome book with a whole page dedicated to wifi you will never find a connection, this blatant fabrication, for us who had specifically chosen wifi as an option were left very disappointed. The other point we chose on our drop down menu was a secure garden for our dog, again please do not make this mistake, while this is set in '70 acres' of land, the property's are squished together with no boundaries between and The Granary has only one access on to the car park and the 'garden' at the rear is not suitable for dogs to be let off on to partly as it has a drop onto a horse field. The other problem is while we were there I couldn't work out if the little unleashed dog constantly running around belonged to the farmhouse or was a thoughtless holiday maker, it made our stay difficult. By all accounts Sue gives a very pleasant greeting, the cottage is warm but unfortunately the heating/water system is incredibly loud. It is a plus that each bedroom has its own bathroom but a negative that it easily ran out of hot water producing cold showers and discomfort. We went in October, so end of season, but the whole place needs a spring clean, the cobwebs and dust were rife and unpleasant. The kitchen was just gruby and some utensils just needed throwing out, the oven was a pain and the bottom rack of the dishwasher impossible. I would not recommend this property in its current state and I would not return.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; For any potential visitors I feel that I must address some of the points raised here. Firstly I can assure you that a great deal of money has been spent in The Granary over recent years. In the past year alone, the property has had all new curtains fitted downstairs, a new TV and fire, all the sofas have been replaced and it has been redecorated. In the past 10 years, the property has had a number of “serious injections” and had been regularly refurbished. As the cottages are converted farm buildings they are ruggedly constructed with very solid stone walls. As a consequence, the Wi-Fi can be somewhat intermittent since the signal does not always permeate into every area. However the Wi-Fi is always available in the main Farm house, where the router and booster are located, and all guests are told that they are very welcome to use either the large living room or conservatory to access it at any time. Nowhere do I state that Wi-Fi is available in all the cottages – but Free Wi-Fi is always available on site. I am unsure of the comment “secure garden”. It does not state this on my website or on website. The Garden referred to within the review is that of another cottage. However, the property is located literally seconds away from acres of fields, and there is easy access to the entire North Yorkshire Moors, if pets need space for a run out. I feel it unfair to say the cottages are squished together. There is more than adequate space for each and there is no need for unsightly boundaries. The layout of the Grange is very well illustrated on my website for anyone to see and the Granary is a detached property with plenty of room around it. The noise of the “heating” is caused by the water pump running when the taps are not turned off fully – even a drip causes the pump to run. If instructions were followed correctly, the noise would have ceased. The oven is about 2 years old and works perfectly. Perhaps the issue was that it was not the oven the guests were used to. There is a user guide in the kitchen and this clearly explains how to use it. I take on board these comments and I am always open to issues that customers have raised. I am sorry that the guests do not appear to have enjoyed their stay at Laskill – however the majority do and I believe that both my awards and reviews bear testimony to that.
