A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Description

Retaining many original features, this cottage was once the servants’ quarters to the main house, and lies close to the heart of Bedale.

Quietly tucked away behind the owner’s Georgian house, The Georgian Cottage is an absolute gem. Dating back to 1732, this annexe to the main house was once the servants’ quarters and is filled with original features including exposed oak beams. There is also a courtyard area at the front for guests’ use. Perfect for couples, families and friends who like to holiday together, the property lies within a minute’s walk from the heart of Bedale, a thriving market town which has a weekly market, many cafés, restaurants and pubs. Also lining the high street are many unique shops, boutiques and an auction house. Known as the ‘Gateway to the Dales’, Bedale is the ideal location for guests who enjoy walking, cycling and exploring. The Heritage Trail is a great walk taking in the town’s historic Georgian buildings, and a footpath along the beck passes the weir to the old canal basin which is renowned locally
as a real wildlife haven.
With only a short trip into the Yorkshire Dales, guests will be treated to some of the most magnificent scenery, views and countryside that the county has to offer. There are many walks and footpaths that lead directly from Bedale, with trails to suit all ages and abilities. Places to visit locally include Bedale Golf Club, Thorpe Perrow Arboretum with its Bird of Prey Centre. With its magnificent ballroom, Bedale Hall also houses the museum, tourist information centre, library and a childrens play area in the park. Kiplin Hall and Jervaulx Abbey are always popular, as is Nosterfield Nature Reserve. The Wensleydale Railway is also a popular attraction, you can purchase tickets and board the train at Bedale Station. There is also the chance to visit the visitors centres at both Theakston’s and The Black Sheep Breweries, both in Masham, which are only a short drive away. Also within easy reach by car, are the popular local towns and villages including Northallerton, Leyburn, Hawes, Barnard Castle, Richmond, York and Durham. We had a fabulous weekend in the cottage for my 60th birthday. Val and John were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them, they even provided a bandage/ strap for my husbands anklewhen he injured it. Will definitely be returning, and would recommend it to anyone

Lovely spacious cottage in a good location. Pictures dont do it justice! Immaculate and well equipped. Had everything we needed and owners were nearby but not intrusive should we have needed anything more. Lots of little extras supplied too

A lovely cottage with lovely owners. We stayed over the February half term and found lots to do in the local area with younger children. The cottage was well equipped and very quiet, despite being just moments from all the amenities of this lovely market town. We tried a number of the pubs and restaurants in the town, all of which were good. Would thoroughly recommend this place to others.

This is an excellent property in the heart of a charming Georgian town with many amenities and friendly people in an area of great interest. The owners were welcoming and their welcome 'pack' was one of the best. Highly recommended

The 3 of us (2 adults + four month old baby boy) spent the bank holiday weekend at the Georgian Cottage, which is extremely comfortable and very well equipped. The newly added conservatory or sun room was great although due to a hot spell, a bit too warm but then who wants to stay indoors when it's nice outside. It was however a very relaxing place to sit during a heavy storm and proved useful in helping our baby off to sleep :) Val & John are lovely hosts and very kindly allowed us use of their members card at nearby Thorpe Perrow Arboretum (a must visit on a sunny day with a picnic). Great Cottage, kind and generous owners, I'm sure we'll be back.
