Description

An idyllic base for outdoor enthusiasts surrounded by excellent walking and cycling opportunities, and with access to the Pennine Way.

The Gatehouse at Beckfoot Hall is a deceptively spacious, Grade II listed property, lovingly renovated and retaining its period charm. Situated near the traditional market town of Kirkby Stephen, the house is surrounded by excellent walking and cycling country, with Kirkby Stephen being a popular stop off point on the Coast to Coast walk. There is also easy access to the Pennine Way, fishing on the nearby River Eden, golf, pony trekking and historic castles in the area. This wonderful location is within an easy, scenic drive of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales and the famous Settle/Carlisle Railway. Within a 40-minute drive, visitors can explore Ullswater and the Eastern Lakes, Swaledale, Wensleydale and the lesser known Teesdale, along with the popular towns of Keswick, Kendal, Sedbergh, Barnard Castle and Hawes. Tan Hill, the highest pub in Britain, is also a short, pretty drive away. A wide selection of shops, pubs and restaurants are found in Kirkby Stephen 1½ miles away.

A lovely stay in this delightful cottage. We were lucky to be snowed in whilst having bitter cold and windy snow storms but with underfloor heating and log burner we were kept toasty warm. This accommodation has everything you need and is located perfectly for long walks and great pub meals. The perfect place to stay in this area.

The cottage is even better than the photos. We had a fantastic weeks stay here. The owner has renovated it to a beautiful standard and it's a home from home experience with everything you need. The owner, Fiona, could not have been more welcoming or hospitable; thank you. We can't wait to visit again in September for our wedding!

What a delightful cottage ... Fiona & Graham we’re so friendly and our enjoyment was their core aim throughout our stay. The gatehouse is superbly placed to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings. We would love to return and thank you for sharing such a wonderful building

Excellent.. Did a lot of walking including Wild Boar Fell and other walks in the Mallerstang area. Owners left to myself as was alone except on first night and was a lovely peaceful stay. Views are great... would like to visit again.... I do geocaching , walking and cycling. I have done most of the geocaches in the area so probably go elsewhere, but highly recommended...

This was a stunning cottage with beautiful views from the kitchen window. Only a few miles from Kirkby Stephen and easy access to the M6 for Penrith, Kendal and Carlisle. The area around the cottage is beautiful. The owners are on site if needed. The cottage is beautiful inside and out. We visited Windermere, ulvaston, Kendal, holker hall, dalemain house, aira force and much much more. The landscape between Penrith and Carlisle, and down towards Kendal is a stunning part of the north Pennines. Would definitely visit again. We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary whilst we were there and had a great time.

Very clean, flowers from the garden in three rooms and home made scones with jam, butter and a bottle of milk to help welcome us. Would be delighted to stay anytime. But could do with a little sunshine next time!!

Best holiday home we have ever had the pleasure to stay in. Very thoughtful owner thinks of everything a guest might need then provides it. This includes 2 ltr bottle of milk and a delicious chocolate cake! If I could be cheeky and ask for one addition, it would be a tumbler drier for those rain sodden items guests occasionally might bring home from a walk in the wonderful Eden Valley countryside. Perfect location for many sight seeing trips. Would recommend.

Great accommodation, wonderful scenery and ideal location for touring the Lakes and Dales. The Gateshouse is in a private, peaceful spot, lots of wildlife to view from the windows. Look forward to returning soon. Highly recommend.

The Gatehouse is a absolutely fantastic renovated cottage, with just the 4* comfort and service that you may expect in 2017. With new beds and furniture and always fast working Wi-Fi. We very much appreciated the lovely bouquets that were placed in each room, the scones, the potatoes and strawberries from the garden of Fiona. We enjoyed some time in the (sunny) flower garden. In the area are some fine restaurants. In the cottage you will find lots of information for activities. Yes, we do recommend this cottage.

The Gatehouse is a very high end cottage in a stunning location and it is the owners first venture and she has understood what people want and delivered it in bucket fulls,we knew that the owners were away but their son was on hand if required only saw him once. This cottage is an ideal base for the Lakes,Yorkshire Dales,Pennines with plenty of walks from the door. We used it as a base for a motoring holiday and be assured you do not have to travel miles to see breathtaking scenery just get a map out and go. I would not think many children would be content listening to the birdcall I would think it is more for couples who would relish romantic peace and quiet with stunning views. I would highly recomend this as a holiday destination.
