This cottage is in dire need of a new bathroom and a new kitchen. The cottage lacked a washing machine which is essential when you have a family on holiday for a week! Overall the place needs doing up and is very tired. I would not recommend this place to my friends and family. This is a shame because the location is stunning.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Following the retirement of our caretaker, we now have a new cleaner/caretaker. We have taken note of recent reviews and are making improvements. We have installed a new oven, hob, extractor fan and microwave in the kitchen, new beds, bedding and curtains in the twin bedded room and new bedding in the double bedded room. There are also new, better quality towels. We replaced the sofas in the sitting room and repainted the interior last year. We would like to install a washing machine but we have been unable to find space near a water supply. However, as an alternative there are two launderettes in Portmadoc. We continue to make improvements to the property whilst trying to maintain its Victorian character.

The cottage had potential to be lovely but it was very much let down by the cleanliness in the kitchen, the sink, cooker and plates and glasses were all dirty when we arrived, which was very disappointing. The bathroom was not too clean either, the shower curtain needed replacing and the sealant around the bath was black in places. The rest of the cottage was homely but a little tired looking.

A lovely cottage, with great views of the welsh countryside and handily placed for visiting Portmeirion, Portmadoc and Caernarfon

we found the lodge to be very quaint it was a bit lacking in the crockery and linen and there was a smell of dogs but this went after lots air through the property also limited head room in the entrance to the main bedroom but the rest was ok and found it to be in a peaceful spot

lovely cottage well positioned for exploring wales always clean and tidy but needs more essentials no foil vinegar etc things you would expect to be there and only 1 bin liner for a d=family of 4 for a week seems a bit measly but all that said we did love the cottage. Oakley arms across the road is ok but overpriced we loved the the palace vaults pub canerfon good food well priced lovely staff.

Very good location, with excellent dog-walking. Traffic noise occasionally disturbing, but easily ignored. Cottage is comfortable and well-equipped. Upstairs has low doorways, but we managed to avoid any bumps. Nice dog-friendly pub with wi-fi and good food close by.

The cottage was in an ideal location to access all areas but the only draw back was the cottage was on a busy junction so all the traffic noise intruded on our expected peaceful holiday.

Gate Lodge is very comfortable and well situated to explore the Snowdonia National Park. We especially enjoyed walking the network of footpaths that directly surround the cottage.

Location good. Detached property. Heating would be inadequate in cold weather - felt logs should have been provided for wood burner.
