The cottage is run down. Plaster work has fallen off outside. Garden overgrown. Picture on website is not a true reflection of the condition of the property now. There was a problem in the main bedroom. Flies buzzing behind the light switch for the whole week and flies all around the room with a bad smell coming from behind the wall. No one to complain to as owners away on holiday. On one night killed 12 flies before going to sleep. Handle on the grill was broken. Carpet in bathroom is just a no-no and it was very old. Its a shame as the views of Kenmare Bay towards the mountains are stunning. Also old sofa in the main garden area and generally untidy but stunning views.

The property seems to be not as good or well looked-after now as previous reviews seem to suggest. There was no proper welcome from the owner and there were no 'house' instructions (about heating, rubbish, and so on). In fact the heating was broken, and after repair on day 3 was unsatisfactory. The boiler was an oil-fired Rayburn in the kitchen, which is quite unsuitable for the purpose: without any temperature control the only way was to use the timer to have it on for very brief periods, and even then it would get far too hot. The bathroom door would neither close fully nor lock, which we reported but it was ignored.

The cottage was lovely and cosy and we enjoyed our stay there very much. However, the directions to the cottage weren't very precise and we also didn't have the name of the B & B next door so it took us alittle time to find the cottage. Still, once we did find the place, we were able to let ourselves in as the key had been left in the front door. The B & B owner had kindly baked a loaf of bread for us, laid the open fire for us and also put butter and milk in the fridge for us. The owner was very friendly when we met her and gave us a very warm welcome. We enjoyed the experience very much as this was the first time we had rented a cottage rather than stay at a B & B or hotel. We will definitely do it again.
