This was our first holiday in a cottage - we have a caravan on a site in Cornwall, but this was a special holiday for my husband's retirement. We enjoyed a lovely week with beautiful weather, and Glenridding made a good base to explore the Lakes. It was good to be able to come home in the evenings and cook a meal, then sit and enjoy the view, and we loved the quiet location and the birds in the garden. We are sure we'll be back again.

We had a lovely holiday but were disappointed in the cleanliness of the cottage. Every room was covered in lots of cobwebs- not just little ones in the corner- they were hanging down over the bed so had to pull down before we got in and all window sills covered in dust- and behind unit In the lounge was full of cobwebs. It is a shame as the cottage is lovely and amazing view out of the huge window but it really needs a good through clean- it obviously hasn't been cleaned throughly for a while.

The positive is the big picture bay window, it's a massive bonus if the weather is too bad to venture out, as it was when my Husband and I visited over Christmas, we turned the chairs around and sat watching over the valley as the world and the weather passed by. A fabulous area to re-charge the batteries and wind down. The Christmas tree and decorations really made it. Thank you. The garden must be lovely in the summer, even in Winter it was alive with birds of all shapes and sizes. Very warm cosy cottage, the open fire is a big bonus, all heaters worked well, bathroom was lovely and warm, great to be able to choose between having a bath or a shower. Everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. The negative, parking is advertised as in a layby opposite cottage but it's just a slightly wider bit of the track and the car has to straddle a shallow drainage channel, ok if you have a 4x4 but a little awkward for lower cars. The outside lights on the steps and over door didn't work. There was a patch of black mould in the corner of the bedroom and behind the bed, bit of a concern. On the whole it was a good holiday cottage and we would consider staying again. Great base for visiting local attractions and good for walking, village and amenities 5 minutes walk.

    * The cottage bathrooms were dirty on arrival. * The bannister was broken in need of repair, and posed a safety risk for my two small children. * A number of the outside lights were not working. * Instructions were followed to leave rubbish in a white bag on top of gate wall, but after doing so an animal had torn into it and spread rubbish all over the space which I had to clean up. * The cottage lacked a washing machine. * The cottage is generally unsuitable for children.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. Regarding the bathrooms, I will be taking this up with my cleaner. One bannister pole was indeed broken previously and unfortunately there wasn’t time to get it fixed before your arrival. However, the cleaner / manager had it in hand for it to be repaired and indeed an additional hand rail to be fitted to stop guests pulling on the bannister. We were also waiting for the electricians to inspect / repair the outside lights. As regards the rubbish, it is a requirement that we leave the white bag out for collection and not in a bin. We shall look into the possibility of some sort of acceptable, white bag container with the refuge collectors. The cottage has never been advertised as offering washing machine facilities. It is a matter of opinion as to whether or not it is suitable for children. We have had several bookings with children with good reports. The cleaners have advised me that unfortunately upon departure, the property was found to be left in an unacceptable condition which therefore required extra cleaning. I shall contact the cleaner / manager of the cottage for an update on the repairs but I can assure you that the comfort and wellbeing of our guests is very important. The cottage has been booked out each week, almost the full year without many problems, however, any damages or problems that do occur are usually seen to as promptly as possible.

The location is ideal. The cottage is very comfortable with lovely garden and views. The living / dining area is quite small for 4 people. A washing machine would be a distinct improvement, especially for anyone staying for longer than one week.
