English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Enjoy a family holiday in Cornwall with easy access to all the West Country has to offer with beaches, moor and more.

This charming, historical building in the heart of the coastal village of Newlyn has been fully restored from one of the oldest original farmhouse dwellings. It now provides a spacious holiday home, retaining a wealth of original features yet has all up-to-date comforts and an antique four poster bed. The wonderful timber floors were reclaimed from a shipwreck.
Standing just yards from Newlyn waterfront and harbour, the property benefits from a large, private, fully enclosed rear garden and patio.
It is tucked away in a quiet, small side street yet yards from the heart of Newlyn with art gallery, cafes, pubs, restaurants and curiosity shops on the doorstep. The property has roadside parking and a car park 250 yards away. Newlyn is a working harbour and fresh fish can be purchased daily.
The quaint, picturesque harbour of Mousehole is a 15-minute stroll or 5-minute drive with its pretty streets, colourful cottages, small sandy beaches and harbour. The area is perfect for exploring the delights of West Cornwall including the famous Minack Theatre, Lamorna Cove, Lands End, the white sandy beach at Sennen, popular with families and surfers. The busy town of Penzance offers a wide choice of shops, cafes and restaurants all overlooking Mounts Bay with its long stretch of white sandy beach attracting kite surfers, bathers and those who love a brisk beach walk, with St Michael’s Mount rising majestically from the sea like a fairytale castle! St Michael’s Mount is open daily and can be reached from the historic town of Marazion on foot via causeway at low tide or by small ferry at high tide. The area is renowned for its art and culture with the famous Newlyn Art School close by. The area was the main backdrop for the TV series Poldark, and offers hours of glorious cliff top walks and heather clad moorlands. Take the scenic drive from Pendeen to St Ives passing many old engine houses and the small village of Zennor, famous for its mermaid tales. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Cottage was lovely overall but a few areas that let it down. The bedrooms were uncomfortably hot at night, there are skylight windows but no way to open them. Also outside bins full on arrival so nowhere to put our rubbish, and one of the bathrooms had no door handle (it had obviously broken and not been replaced). Location was good though and parking in harbour car park worked well.

Response on behalf of the owner. Thank you your feedback . There are windows that you can open in the bedroom, the Velux were put in to give extra light to the rooms. The bins are collected on Wednesday and guests arrive on Friday, so as of next season I have hired a private bin company to come and empty the bins on Fridays. I had no idea the door handle was broken, the cleaner hadn’t informed me. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and it has been rectified.

The cottage has been recently refurbished but still maintains its charm. Generally well appointed and well kept. For a property that could sleep 8 the equipment provided is limited in terms of cooking utensils. We ate out every night. For a highly-priced property, the television is small and there is Freeview only. The rooms were generally clean but not spotless. We had to change our sheets on arrival. There is no facility to arrange for any recycling. Not sure the website gives a true reflection of the location of the property - bottom end of town behind the harbour and fish processing dock.
