The Folly is actually much nicer and more stunning than the website photos suggest. We loved it as soon as we walked in. It was perfect for us as a couple as everything was on the ground floor. But I could understand the previous tenants criticisms of the upstairs bedroom and bathroom as it does seem a little cut off from the rest of the apartment and was chilly when we went to have a nose. However, the other negative comments on the website were unfounded. If you're really that bothered about having internet access you should check before you book. Someone complained there was only parking for 1 car - this is clearly stated on the website. And the person who made a long list of complaints (noisy pillows(!), clock not working, mis-matched mugs and glasses, kitchen too small) PLEASE! If this sort of thing bothers you, go stay in a five-star hotel and not a 16th century historic building! We loved it and could have stayed another week.

Settle is a great little town and at the Folly you get all the amenities yet very little passing traffic. So great to stay in a place with so much history and such character. The only place I have ever seen a fireplace that big was in a castle.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Folly. It truly is a historic building in a wonderful location.

On entering the main living area, The Folly certainly gave us a "wow" feeling. Sadly, this didn't continue as the property was marketed as 5 star, but The Folly clearly wasn't up to this standard. Here are the reasons (many minor):- Firstly, and very significantly, was the waterproof quilted polycotton pillow protectors which were on the bedroom pillows. I've never seen these before and didn't check the pillow cases before going to bed. Every time my husband and I moved our heads in bed the pillows made a loud crinkly noise which resulted in us getting very little sleep. These protectors shouldn't have been left on the pillows, it was extremely inappropriate. I took them off the following morning. I now know this was an error and appreciate mistakes are made. The blind did not work properly in the bedroom. The light on the right hand side of the dressing table wasn't working. The hair dryer wasn't fully operational, there only appeared to be one heat setting working. No light on the on the left side of the kitchen cabinet. The fire was full of ash on our arrival. Fire basket broken - needs replacing. The torch wasn't working. There were no matches to light the fire ( we did look in the table where the paper for lighting the fire was kept). Door leading upstairs needs oiling as it's very creaky. Clock not working in the bathroom (why is it there if it's not working?) Kitchen - far too small, barely adequate. Clock not changed to correct time in the kitchen. No matching tumblers in the kitchen, rather a mix and match situation. Details book on the Settle area not up to date. Example: The Falcon Manor has been open for about two years but the details book claimed it was still closed. The TV and DVD not in sync volume wise. When switching from DVD to TV the volume needs to be decreased very very significantly. Furniture in upstairs bedroom is of low quality. The passageway leading from the main bedroom to the garden was very dark. A light would be useful. On the plus side, we had a lovely visit, the terrace garden is private and well stocked. The Folly had a lovely historic feel. A super location.

Quaint and quirky but some updating needed. The pillows on the beds were old and either very thin or the thicker pillows had a protective cover that crackled like plastic so not comfortable. The kitchen area could us some maintenance and repair.

The Folly was a very interesting place to stay and centrally located. Sharon keeps it very clean and comfortable , and was most kind and helpful when we had a query.

As my brother lives in Settle I know the area well. The Folly was a perfect place to be at Christmas time. The only problem was the weather. Apart from that I enjoyed my stay.

Fantastic place to stay right in the middle of Settle, everything nearby. Amazing old building, huge stone fireplace, large lounge, decent bedrooms, adequate kitchen, full central heating, with history attached. Couple of minor problems were quickly resolved. We'd all go back (4 adults) and we were there just after the floods and in a cloudy damp week.
