Golfing enthusiasts will delight in the ample choice of several prestigious courses close by, one being the superior De Vere Slaley Hall. Ramblers and cyclists will enjoy exploring the heather moorlands with rugged uplands which include some of the highest, wildest and most beautiful scenery in the country. Hamsterley Forest provides miles of lovely forest walks leading to High Force; England’s largest waterfall. The historic market town of Hexham, dominated by its majestic abbey offers an abundance of amenities only 15 miles and the pretty village of Corbridge renowned for its specialist shops and quaint tea rooms is 12 miles. Derwent cottage was a lovely place to stay. Very peaceful location ,lovely dark skies for stargazing. Ideal for fishing ,sailing and nature enthusiasts. The hosts were very friendly and helpful but unobtrusive. the lack of wifi was not a problem ,except you need to plan where to visit before you get to the cottage ,but the pub a couple of miles away has wifi and excellent food. Cottage was cosy , the only criticism I would make is the beds could have better supported mattresses. it would be an ideal place for a group of friends to hire all cottages with a sociable courtyard shared between all 4 and a lawn to play games on. We enjoyed going to Beamish -30 minutes away and Alnwick Castle -1 hour .

Our whole family really enjoyed the week at the Derwent. We chilled a few days and others were spent in the area. Beamish was a real hit and well worth every penny.

We had a wonderful week at the cottage. The owners were very helpful and friendly, even getting us last minute milk for our tea and booking us a meal at the fantastic local pub. The cottage could not have been nicer, very cosy and clean with plenty of room and a fully stocked kitchen. My daughter loved visiting with the horse in the morning and our dog was very happy to have a little yard to run about . Finding somewhere this nice that takes a pet was a stroke of luck. It was not to far from Hexham giant Tesco for shopping and also visiting Hadrians wall, the many National Trust properties and even up to the coast of Northumberland. The surrounding area is stunning. We would happily stay again.
