Bustling with small shops, pubs and places to eat, Stanhope is a thriving town that guests will find plenty of places to enjoy the local produce, or take a dip in the open air swimming pool that is so popular with tourists and locals alike. Surrounded by moorland in the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, guests will find Stanhope the ideal spot from which to start their exploring. Guests will be able to glimpse at close range an abundance of local wildlife, flora and fauna that populates this magnificent area. Also perfect for guests of all ages, families with children will find plenty to enjoy at nearby Hamsterley Forest with it’s popular Gruffallo trail, picnic areas and children’s play area, as well as many tracks for mountain biking and cycling.
All within an easy hour’s drive guests will be able to explore Killhope Lead Mine, Beamish Living Museum, Durham City with it’s historic castle and cathedral and the Durham Dales Centre, which are great attractions for families and really are worth a day out. Stanhope is also the current terminus for the Weardale Railway, a heritage railway that operates primarily at weekends all year round and runs from Bishop Auckland, with Stations at Frosterley and Wolsingham. A little further afield but still within easy driving distance, guests will be able to visit the natural beauty of Cumbria and the Lake District, the Durham Dales, Northumberland and Newcastle. Owners responded quickly when there was a problem with the kitchen light. House was basic but clean and quiet. Bedrooms were spacious, the bathroom had a lovely shower. Overall a nice location in a beautiful area slightly off the beaten tourist track.
