Description

With large grounds, this tranquil retreat for couples is on one level, with easy access to stunning coastline.

The peaceful, fertile Camel Valley is the setting for this delightful single-storey cottage. Dating from the 1700s, it lies 5 miles from the sea at Rock and has its own pretty courtyard and woodland and paddock grounds of 2½ acres. Adjoining the owner’s home, it is reached via a country track, and presented to a high standard; an attractive conservatory acts as a sun trap - an ideal year round retreat in which to curl up with a good book or glass of wine. Pleasant forest walks can be enjoyed and the stunning coastline beckons exploration nearby. Within easy reach is Padstow with picturesque harbour, shops, pubs and restaurants, including Rick Stein’s seafood restaurant. Shops 2 miles.

Living/dining room with wood-burning stove and patio doors to conservatory. Small, modern fitted kitchen. Twin bedroom. Bathroom with corner bath, separate shower cubicle and toilet.

Situated in a pretty setting but access not good! Great to have wifi but there was no telephone reception. Very nice welcome pack and the owner very pleasant man.

The owners were away, so we were greeted by another couple who were looking after things. We received a “welcome pack”, which consisted of a few basics including milk, tea, butter etc. Very nice, but at the same time a little disappointing when reading the visitors’ book, and finding that previous guests had enthused about the freshly baked bread and fresh eggs! Also not included was the advertised initial fuel for the wood burning stove. One of the reasons for choosing The Dairy was the advertised “Shared access to 2½ acres of paddock and woodland”. Perfect for letting the dogs have a run, I thought. When asking how to access this, we were told that they weren’t sure, and that we should keep the dogs on a lead anyway, as there is an elderly cat. Never did find this paddock and woodland! Although there is wifi at the cottage, the signal is intermittent. Mobile phone coverage is non-existent unless you want to hike to the top of the hill behind the owners’ property, after first negotiating the car parked at the entranceway to this area, leaving very little room to pass. Not pleasant on wet days! The cottage itself was comfortable and clean, with plenty of equipment in the kitchen.

A care worn property which felt a little damp and dark. It's redeeming factor is the conservatory which gives much needed additional space and light. The access to the field is via steps which are in need of maintenance. Really the back of the property needs opening up so visitors can also have a light terrace with a view like the owners.

Response on behalf of the owner; We are sorry that our property did not please you. I apologise that we did not tell you not to use the steps as there is easy access to our field via our driveway. Most guests like our cottage and we have many favourable comments in our visitors book for the 2015 season.

We spent 3 weeks at the cottage. Our host Richard was extremely helpful and hospitable for any advice or assistance. The welcome pack was excellent, with home made bread, churned butter, fresh eggs and a lovely red and a white wine. The cottage was situated in a beautiful idyllic location. Fantastic for walking or just relaxing. Our border collie Tankus just loved it. Thanks, Ann & Graham.
