Description

This former barn makes an ideal holiday base for families or couples, and enjoys shared use of a swimming pool.

Use of heated indoor heated swimming pool by arrangement with the owner

This detached holiday cottage that was originally a dairy, is in an enviable location, adjacent to the owners’ home and within a stone’s throw of Sheffield Park Gardens (NT) which was originally laid out by Capability Brown in the 1700s. The gardens offer a memorable red and gold colour show in the autumn from the variety of 87 trees and also the national collection of Ghent azaleas which bloom in spring and summer, and not forgetting the wonderful bluebells. Equidistant in the other direction is The Bluebell Railway celebrating 50 years of preserved steam engines. Take dinner on the Golden Arrow Pullman which recreates the days when the train stylishly linked London to Paris!
The holiday cottage is situated in a courtyard setting in the owners’ grounds which was once part of a farm. The cottage has its own enclosed garden and patio terrace sitting area. Guests have access to a shared indoor heated swimming pool by arrangement with the owners, for use up to 9pm. Walks from the doorstep are possible into the beautiful Ashdown Forest or go to Glyndebourne and Lewes or visit the coast at Brighton, Eastbourne and Beachy Head. Good rail connections to London from Haywards Heath for further sightseeing opportunities. Shop 1 mile, pub 2 miles and restaurant 1/2 mile.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. Utility room. 2 steps down to sun room. 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin. Bathroom with shower attachment and toilet.

Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Oil underfloor central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD. Electric cooker. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Enclosed garden with terrace, lawned area and furniture. Barbecue. Parking (2 cars). Cycle store. The furniture and beds were not really suitable for our needs, we are both in our late '60s and suffer from mobility issues. The house was clean with good stocks of cutlery and crockery, the lack of a micro-wave seemed odd. Also disappointing was the lack of wi-fi. A pleasant enough property though not matching our needs or expectations.

A warm welcome from Suzanne. She kindly showed use around the beautiful and very well equipped cottage and made us feel at home. The tea and coffee box and wine in the fridge were a god send. The pool was fab, we had so much fun with the kids. The dogs particularly loved the underfloor heating! We all had a wonderful time. Thank you.

Great cottage. Had everything you needed. The kids loved helping Dad making a fire and the fabulous pool was enjoyed by all. Will definitely go back if we can.

This was a very well appointed cosy yet spacious 4 bedded holiday let. We really got the impression that the owners genuinely wanted us (and Pip, our border terrier) to enjoy the cottage and had there been anything we needed that they would have tried their best to sort it. The cottage however is well equipped and we really wanted for nothing. Access to the swimming pool was a special bonus. For a personal perspective, it was ideally located for visiting family members.

A lovely cottage - very well equipped and appointed. Nice touches of wine, tea, coffee, flowers and sweets for the children upon arrival. Swimming pool was a great bonus and we were able to use it as much as we wanted. Absence of wi-fi was a bit of a nuisance as mobile reception was very poor so internet searching for local things to do was difficult. A great base to explore a beautiful part of the world.

The property is in a nice position, being near Sheffield Park and the steam trains as well as within reach of Lewes and the coast. The cottage is clean and well-kept, and we appreciated the milk, teas and the bottle of wine - very thoughtful. It was very good to be able to use the swimming pool, too. Our only quibbles were that the house wasn't too warm for spring, and it wasn't possible for us to control the heating ourselves. In addition, one of the two beds in the twin bedroom was most uncomfortable, with springs sticking out of the mattress (the double bed was fine).

Had a great time and will be going back but you do need a car, and run by a lovely couple.
