The cottage shop is a fantastic place to stay if you want to get away from it all. Beautiful setting and the character of the cottage is just like stepping back in time but with modern facilities.

Only reason we wouldn't return is because we found the bed very uncomfortable which is a shame because every thing else was 10 out of 10

A great quirky characterful cottage for get-away-from-it-all breaks that dates back to the 1700s. Beams, nooks and crannies, old stone floor, great sheltered courtyard for day time and night and a real fire (which being August - we sadly didn't need to light). Cosy lounge/dining area, well-equipped galley kitchen, and six steep ancient stone steps up the bedroom area. A word of warning - it is remote. Don't expect a Sainsbugs round the corner - although there is a well-stocked local shop (Hopes of Longtown) about four miles down the lanes - so do take adequate supplies . Property does has wi-fi so you won't be that cut-off but mobile phone signal there is patchy - but who cares, you're there to enjoy yourself not fret about work life!

Lovely peaceful, scenic location. It is a tricky drive to get to the cottage along narrow lanes. The cottage was very well equipped with everything two people & a small dog could need. The living area was very small. We were lucky with the weather so the small living area was not too much of a problem as we could sit outside. I understand that it is hard to keep a beamed cottage clean but it was dusty in places although the kitchen equipment was lovely & clean. There were plenty of towels & the milk , biscuits, tea & coffee were very welcome on arrival.

Overall a nice place to stay with everything you need in the property, just right for two people. The area is quite and peaceful with the sounds of wildlife around the cottage. The cottage itself is very old and not for the infirm but it does have plenty of character and once you have mastered the heating system when required it is cosy and warm. Most of the equipment is in good working order with the exception of the internal grill within the oven, this does try to heat up but fails miserably. A new more efficient oven would benefit the property.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The kitchen was fully equipped and had everything you needed. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and in a very quiet location, ideal for walks with our dog. The details on the website were accurate and clear, with no nasty surprises. The garden provides a lovely outdoor space. We would recommend this charming cottage to anyone thinking of staying in this area.

I have already spoken to your office about this cottage. Misrepresentation - it does not look like the photo above. There is a tall fence dividing the two properties and the cottage shop doesn't benefit from this new addition.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately some visitors are unable to control their pets sufficiently and it became necessary to replace the fence on one side of the walled front courtyard. No other areas are affected and the images on the website have now been updated.

A lovely little cottage hidden in beautiful countryside with heaps of character. We stayed over the Easter weekend for 3 nights. On arrival the owner had put eggs and milk in the fridge and there was tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits too. We found it to be very well equipped with literally everything you could need. The cottage was lovely and warm but we Couldn't resist lighting the fire in the evenings. The cottage is about 4-5 miles of very tight country roads to get anywhere so be prepared by taking everything you need if you don't want to drive anywhere. The sofa was a little uncomfortable but on arrival the owner had left us a note to say that a new sofa had been ordered, however it didn't affect our stay. The bed was very comfortable and probably the best bed we've ever slept in on a break. All in all we had a fantastic time and our dog loved it too!! We will definitely be going back.

This little cottage was good for 2 people set in a very private setting and peaceful and remote part of Herefordshire. It was very well equipped, had plenty of hot water and towels and backed up with the log fire was very warm. The bed was clean and comfortable and a welcoming vase of daffodils were in place for our arrival. Wi fi worked very well. However, although the cottage appeared to be clean on arrival on closer inspection was in need in areas, of some attention. I got the impression that perhaps the cottage had not been let out for some time as although the cottage may have been cleaned after the last visitors I felt in my opinion that maybe the cottage had stood empty and gathered residue on surfaces. There was a residue/dusty film on cutlery and dishes and work surfaces. Because of the size of the cottage utensils, saucepans and dishes were on the worktop exposed surface under the stone stairs leading to the bedroom resulting in my having to wash everything prior to using. The bath also although looking clean had to be washed due to a dusty film on it. The Quilt was so extremely heavy and bulky we had to go to the shops the following day and purchase a quilt. What looked to be a new 2 seater vynil sofa that you could only sit upright to attention in was very rigid, small, and restrictive and as a result very, very uncomfortable!! We did enjoy our stay very much however and will certainly visit another of your properties in the near further. Thankyou Susan

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. I clean the property as thoroughly as possible between visits, but when the cottage is occupied over several weeks, it is not always possible to cover every area particularly when some visitors are late in leaving. The quilt is replaced with a lighter one in the spring, but alternative bedding is kept in the cupboard throughout the year. The sofa is going to be replaced.

The Cottage Shop was beautiful and in a very tranquil setting. The only thing that let it down for us was the modern sofa was very uncomfortable.

The cottage is beautiful with lots of character. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we would need for the week including a dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. The bathroom had both a bath, shower and separate toilet which was perfect for us. The bedroom was up a steep flight of concrete steps and the floorboards moved under our feet in the bedroom which we found to be very quaint and added to the character of the 300 year old cottage. The bed was extremely comfortable and there was plenty of cupboard space as well as night lights and a torch should it be needed. There is also a hairdryer and a stereo should it be needed. Downstairs in the small living room there was a dining table which we found handy, a variety of books and games as well as dvds and music should we need them. The wood fire was amazing and all the bits you needed were available to us to start with, then we had to buy any extra (and we needed to as we had a fire every night!) The only negative was the sofa as it was a hard white leather sofa that only sat two and had no give in it so was very much like sitting on a wooden bench. We tried adding pillows and cushions but found this meant we couldn't fit on it and as my husband is not a small man we ended up sitting apart with me on the sofa and him on one of the dining chairs. Not very romantic! Suffice to say we came home early. Such a shame as otherwise it would have been fabulous.
