We very much enjoyed our week's stay over New Year. The location is excellent, being quiet and semi-rural with footpaths and bridleways right outside the front door. The local pub is a short walk away, though you'll need a good torch at night as the shortest route is along footpaths.
The kitchen-diner is large and well equipped. The massive table would seat 10 or even 12 if you wanted.
The lounge isn't huge, however, and one might find the furniture a bit cosy with more adults (we were two couples only). The TV was rather small (it is visible in one of the photos), although the wi-fi is very fast so we were able to stream TV shows perfectly.
The open fire was fantastic, and we found wood/kindling available in many stores nearby. The garage on the A12 near Darsham sells logs, which was useful as we arrived on a Sunday. We saw a place in Yoxford that delivers so you could even have logs or coal waiting for you if you were organised.
The heating is very good too, and even in the middle of winter we had no problem at all getting all the rooms to the right temperature day or night. The large boiler is in the kitchen, and it can be noisy.
The bathroom looks newly decorated and was spotlessly clean. The shower is an electric one, so lacked the power of ours at home, but it was more than good enough for a week, and we never lacked hot water at any time.
Bedrooms aren't massive, but they're comfortable and clean. There were no ceiling lights in the bedrooms, so the lighting is a bit low key.
The outhouse is useful, allowing you to do washing/drying without the noise disturbing you, and the tiled floor means it's great for storing muddy footwear or bikes. There's a second toilet out there too, which is handy to have when the bathroom is busy, even if it's slightly unpleasant going outside in your pyjamas first thing in the morning. This didn't happen too often as there were only 4 of us, but if you are 6 staying then it's something to consider. I should mention there's a heater in the outhouse if you want, but we switched it off all week as we were in there so rarely.
There was parking space for our two small cars easily, including enough space to turn around so we didn't have to back out the narrow entranceway. Turning around with more cars might be more tricky.
Overall, this is a lovely cottage in a fantastic location, with loads to see in and around Southwold, Walberswick and Aldeburgh. We highly recommend the fish restaurant in Orford if you get a chance to visit.
