The Cox family had a very nice stay at the Pump House Cottage. The owners, the Roberts's were extremely accommodating, allowing us to use the washing machine, dryer and even a set of golf clubs that our eldest son used at the Long Sutton Golf Club! We readily recommend the cottage for a small family.

A beautiful cottage to stay in. Attention to detail gave you a home to home feel. We will definitely stay again when we plan to visit the area. Fantastic value for money.

Well equipped and comfortable cottage in good location within easy reach of places of interest. Owners made us very welcome and were friendly and helpful. Two minor issues for us: one was the busy road running through the village by the cottage which made it quite noisy, and little storage / working space in the kitchen, but apart from that we enjoyed our stay.

The owners were very helpful and friendly but the cottage really needs an upgrade. The toilet in the main bathroom was wobbly and the pipes very noisy when running the bath. I slept in one of the single beds and it was really hard and uncomfortable. (I have a hard mattress at home and do not like soft beds) However, my mother slept in the double bed and was very happy with it. The steps upstairs are very steep, no problem for me but maybe for others not so young. On the plus side, the cottage was warm and quiet and the garden was lovely, although the weather was not good enough for us to sit outside. It is also in a great location for exploring the area and has a shop and really good pub within walking distance.

Cottage was in a lovely location, beds comfortable and owner friendly. Cottage was dusty, with dirt cobwebs above downstairs bed and from hall light and wall. Skirting boards and lampshades very dusty. Kitchen tile had splashes of grease which then had dust on them making black spots - came off when washed with Mr Muscle. On arrival owner showed us the grill which had used foil on which she just turned over! Three piece suite reeked of stale cigarette smoke and dirt and the braid was all loose at the base causing a trip hazard. First night closed kitchen door to living room and then door would not open. Had to exit building via fire window in downstairs bedroom - not an easy thing for an arthritic 60 year old considering the plants growing across and out from the wall and the disintegrating sandbags - I thought fire escapes were meant to be kept clear. On entering back in through the kitchen the door would still not open until a knife was used to push the latch back in. We had tried to contact the owners but not reply on landline or mobile.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are pleased to note that the comments commence with the credit to "a lovely location, beds comfortable and owner friendly". All the items referring to the cleanliness of the cottage have been examined and rectified where necessary. The cottage is cleaned professionally by a lady who has been employed by us for the past decade and this is the first complaint that we have had during that period. On close examination, we found no evidence of dusty furniture, indeed their surfaces are hoovered periodically. We found no cobwebs above the bed but in the dining area found two, small ones, admittedly dusty, but my six-foot husband had to stand on a chair with a four-foot duster with an extension piece to remove them. "Kitchen tiles had splashes of grease." It is significant that neither the size nor number of splashes were reported. The cleaner stated that she had not seen any that needed cleaning. "The owner showed us the grill on which she 'turned over a used foil'." The 'owner' does not recall doing so and, frankly, would certainly NOT do anything so crass. She may have turned the foil to show the shiny side instead of the dull foil side. "The 3-piece suite reeked of cigarette smoke". The cottage is a declared, cigarette-free area. The only smoke possible is from the log fire which is below a wide chimney. "The braid was loose below the settee causing a trip hazard". The braid was, on examination, found to be loose but flush with the settee. We note that no actual trip was stated."…the closed kitchen (connecting) door would not open...we had to exit the building through... the downstairs bedroom window..." The kitchen door, when checked by us in the presence of the tenants, opened when the handle was fully depressed, it has not been replaced and has subsequently worked smoothly. I had explained to the tenants that we were away for the evening and out of contact. There is little doubt that the tenants' failure to open the 'kitchen' door made them exasperated. It is significant that none of these 'complaints' were voiced to us at the time although they were asked (as I always do) if there were any other problems in the cottage.

Comfortable cottage, cosy and the owners very welcoming and friendly. Shower is downstairs and a bit small, but upstairs bedroom and bathroom ensuite is nice and airy. Long Sutton is quiet and pretty but the pub's pricey, though staff friendly and food good. One local shop/P.O. It's a good centre for touring Somerset, near Yeovil and Taunton. Would definitely go back.
