The Cottage is very quirky and you don't know what to expect every time you open a door, it could be a broom cupboard, a bathroom or a huge bedroom. It was very well equipped with everything you need for a stay away although instruction leaflets for the heating and the Aga would have been useful. It was very clean and beds very comfortable. The location however lets it down as there is nothing close by other than the pub next door which we didn't get to try although other guests had rated it highly. If you are a walker then probably it would be better but with a baby in a pram this wasn't an option for us.

Not the most inspiring of positions, but the Cottage has nearby access to the River Stour, with some lovely walks to Flatford Mill and beyond. Footpath access can also be reached by parking at Manningtree station, which is a few minutes drive away. Mistley Quay and Manningtree are very close by and both are steeped in history and have beautiful views over the Stour Estuary. The Cottage is very 'quirky', and quite old. It is very comfortable, homely, clean and warm and cosy and contains pretty much everything you would need for a comfortable stay

'The Cottage' is a lovely old house with period features and loads of character. It is very well equipped and well positioned for access to Constable Country, Colchester town and the east Essex coast. There is a pub next door, but this is a fairly quiet county pub. It is situated on a quiet street with walks to a kids playground and riverside. In mid summer the upstairs bedrooms got pretty warm at night, so summer duvets would have been better than the 13.5 tog ones provided. There is an oil-fired kitchen range for cooking, but this worked well and would presumably make the kitchen lovely and cosy in winter.

The cottage was just perfect for us, 3 couples and 2 children aged 2.5 and 3. Although we did bring one stairgate to close off the gangway to one end of the cottage for overnight safety for one of the children, the other end of the cottage had a door, which we closed.
