Welsh Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above..

Enjoying superb views, this fantastic 16th-century barn has its own secure garden - perfect for a summer evening barbecue!

Lying peacefully on the banks of the glistening River Teifi within extensive grounds and on a 91-acre working farm, these traditional, Welsh barn conversions (refs JUK, JUL, OAM and OFA) have been converted to a very good standard and offer a perfect base for a family or couples looking to explore the dramatic coastline and rugged mountains of west Wales. Conveniently located just 2 miles away from the charming, market town of Cardigan, Rosehill Farm is situated well off the beaten track and is surrounded by rolling terrain where horses, goats and lambs call home. On the approach to the farm, guests will be greeted with spectacular views of the River Teifi, which is famously renowned for its freshwater salmon and trout fishing, and superb water based activities including kayaking and sailing. Each cottage has been sympathetically restored to uncover much of its original charm and character, including exposed beams and stone walls. Outside, guests can relax on their own private patio area, perfect for unwinding after a busy day’s adventure whilst watching the red kites and peregrine falcons soar over the magnificent scenery.
Close to the iconic Pembrokeshire National Park, guests can ramble the majestic Preseli Hills and discover picturesque walks and ancient monuments, including the Bronze Age burial chamber of Pentre Ifan Dolmen, which stands beautifully in rugged terrain. The nearby market towns of Cardigan, Newcastle Emlyn and Carmarthen are all rich with Welsh culture and offer a selection of traditional pubs, boutique and antique gift shops, along with some restaurants waiting to be explored. The magnificent coastline is just a short drive away and is home to golden beaches, horseshoe coves and the pretty coastal towns of Newport, New Quay and Aberaeron, which are set in tranquil fishing harbours where bottlenose dolphins and seals can be spotted on a clear day. For an interesting day out, take a scenic drive to Britain’s smallest city of St David’s and discover its 12th-century cathedral and medieval ruins of Bishops’s Palace, or take a sea safari around the off-shore island of Ramsey, cruising close to seabirds, seals and the occasional dolphin. Shops and pub 2 miles.

Spacious and beamed, open-plan living room with rugs on wooden floor. Farmhouse-style kitchen with dining area and electric cooker. Lower ground floor: Double bedroom with 6ft bed and en-suite shower room with toilet. Twin bedroom with door to courtyard (shared with the owners). Single bedroom with additional pull-out bed. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

I booked the Coach House specifically as it advertised a mile of fishing on the river Teifi. However the only place to fish was very slippery and a gentleman who tried it fell over. When I asked the owner where my father could fish she said the other places were very difficult to get too. So my dad was unable to fish. The cottage was basic. There was no grill pan or oven trays. No scissors or a jug. The corkscrew was broken. There were no nice touches i.e. No dishwasher tablets or soap. Although when I booked the cottage they didn't advertise a hot tub they are now but the hot tub is not plumbed in. I certainly didn't think the cottage was 4*.But if you are booking this or any others of these cottages to fish don't bother.

In our opinion this cottage does not justify its four star rating. It lacked expected items and services - , no comfortable garden furniture, no coffee table, no shower curtain over bath, (all present in photos on the website) no remote control for TV, and hot water and fridge/freezer not switched on on arrival. We had to request a kettle, knives and forks and some crockery, and towels, and a front door key, (we were not met on arrival, and the door was open) These items were eventually provided, (the key not until evening, after we had had to go out and leave the house unlocked) but despite asking twice, a shower curtain did not appear. Plumbing design considered poor - water only available in one bathroom at a time, and insufficient hot water available.

We stayed at the Coach House in early May 17. The setting of the property is lovely, close to the river Teifi and in a short drive from the town of Cardigan. The property however was showing signs of needing a good clean out and some attention to the outside seating area. Crockery in kitchen was mismatched and much of it was chipped. There was no grill pan in the oven. The patio was full of weeds and outside furniture in serious need of attention. Bbq area unusable. No WiFi and remote control for TV did not work. Cottage beams hanging in cobwebs. The chairs at the dining table were all mismatched and one actually came apart in my husbands hand as he moved it to sit down to a meal ! On the plus side, the bedrooms were pleasant with plenty of drawer and hanging space and sufficient electric sockets for hairdrying etc. There is a washer which is easy to use and a spacious fridge freezer. Hot water and heating easy to control. Doubtful if we would return.
