Description

The Coach House sleeps 10 and with two lounges; it’s great for families holidaying together who wish to be near Lyme Regis.

On the outskirts of Lyme Regis, on the famous World Heritage Jurassic Coast and ¾ mile from the beach, scenic harbour and historic Cobb, these two properties; a 300 year old Coach House, and single storey thatched cottage offer excellent holiday accommodation individually or for for larger groups can be booked together to sleep up to 15 guests. The Coach House, which is located on one side of a beautiful high walled courtyard has charm and character, retaining an inglenook, beams, flagstones and one four-poster bedroom, and is ideal to accommodate two family groups or larger extended families. On the other side of the courtyard is Stable Cottage which is thatched, built from local stone and makes excellent family accommodation. Being on the outskirts of Lyme Regis, one can enjoy a stroll into Lyme itself and wander around the local shops, lanes, cafes, restaurants and along the picturesque Cobb, made famous by the film The French Lieutenant’s Woman, or simply chill out on the beach, fishing, boating, beach walking and of course fossil hunting. There is superb scenic coastal walking all along the Lyme Bay Coast, with views stretching to Portland Bill and far into Devon, and for those without a faint heart, the National Trust’s Golden Cap, southern England’s highest cliff is an exhilarating walk with spectacular scenery. One can visit the many popular seaside resorts from Weymouth in the east to Abbotsbury, West Bay, Charmouth, Seaton, Sidmouth and onto Exmouth in the west, or enjoy the beautiful Dorset countryside with its quaint villages, pubs and cream tea cafes. There are many historic houses to visit, including Forde Abbey and Gardens and Montacute House and Gardens, and family entertainment such as The Donkey Sanctuary, Crealy Adventure Park and inland Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum. Exeter Cathedral City is worth a day out to see the Cathedral itself, the catacombs, museums and shops. Golf nearby. Shops and pubs ¼ mile.

The cottage was perfect for a large family gathering and the owners could not have been any more helpful. It was about a 15 min walk into Lyme which is a lovely place for the weekend. We will be back.

We had an enjoyable holiday overall, however, the adverts for the cottage gave the impression that it was closer to the sea than is the case. The directions after the turn off to the B3165 were confusing - could have said turn left at the Black Dog restaurant for Haye Lane. "high wall on left"misleading as this is part of a building and not just a wall. One of the shower drains was blocked and the key code entry system did not work all of the time. Pull chords for the window blinds are now regarded as dangerous for children. Parking was good as was the overall spaciousness and comfort.

Response on behalf of the owner:- We are delighted that you had an enjoyable holiday at The Coach House. Directions are provided by the letting company following a visit from their agent. Post code is given for Sat Nav use, as are two telephone numbers if you experience navigational difficulties. The door code works well, together with the Yale lock and both are explained on arrival. We are on site and if the shower had become blocked during your visit we could have cleared it straight away. Lyme Regis is a lovely town with a wide range of small shops and excellent eateries. Swimming pools, cinemas and large supermarkets are within a short car drive. We hope you will visit this beautiful area again and enjoy its excellent facilities.

The Coach House was a lovely place to stay. Loads of room for all the family and spacious bedrooms too. Comfortable clean beds and space to put your clothes. The Aga was very welcoming and warm and proved quite useful for drying coats and shoes when we were there as the weather was far from good. The only down side is that it's a long walk to the sea front so it's really a car ride when you have the trappings that go with kids. Parking can be a problem especially if you want to eat in the town centre in the evening.

Response on behalf of the owner: We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at The Coach House. There is a lovely almost level walk along the river to the beach, easy for a buggy push and very scenic. There is also the Town Bus no 71 that picks up from the bottom of town and will drop you at The Coach House. August is busy and Lyme Regis is very popular. There are several car parks in town, parking at the beach and harbour and two large car parks on the outskirts, one with steps to the beach and the other with access to the beach minutes away.
