Description

This romantic ‘clock tower’ is the ideal retreat for two. Abound with character and enjoying views over the countryside.

Most unusual building

The Clock Tower was built around 1740, and is part of a Grade ll listed building. Whilst small, it is full of character - with old beams, sloping ceilings and an exposed void leading up to where the bell once hung. At the end of a private drive in the grounds of Snettisham House, there are open views to the rear and over the gardens to the front. Snettisham House is above the village about 3 miles from the sea. There are walks from the holiday cottage, and the nearby RSPB reserve is famous for its wading birds. The nearby Snettisham Park (open to visitors) has rare breeds and farms red deer. Snettisham has good pubs/hotels and a good bistro, store, post office, butchers and greengrocers. Shop, pub and restaurant 1.5 miles.

Ground floor: 1 double bedroom with access from one side only. Shower room with toilet. First floor: Living/dining room/kitchen all with beams.

NSH, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV. DVD and small library. CD and small library. Electric cooker. Microwave. Patio and furniture. Parking (1 car). No smoking.

The location and amenities of Snettisham are excellent. Very quiet and beautiful area. The accommodation itself was good. However, we found the bedroom small and the bed pushed up against the wall at one side, & top & bottom, uncomfortable & awkward to get in & out. It is in the description but it was worse than we thought. The bathroom was also small & perhaps visitors larger or less able than us, would struggle with both rooms? The lounge & kitchen areas upstairs are excellent. The property was very clean & well looked after with everything you needed. Parking is restrictive & for one vehicle only. Outside the property it was another story. It was a building site on both sides of The Clock Tower, which was in a 4 property terrace. Very untidy front & rear of the two adjoining properties. Both appear to have had building work started but have been left unfinished for some time & now look derelict. There is a large digger in the rear garden of next door. Overall outside looked terrible, overgrown and a tip. It was a shame as The Clock Tower was good, and the other properties there were lived in, holiday homes or permanent homes.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; As the description of the property states; the Clocktower is small. However we have been letting to customers for 10 years and have very good ratings (including a gold star). Many people return and there are wonderful testimonials in the visitors book. We can't move walls, but we can make people comfortable and provide a stimulating environment not found in many other properties. The bedroom arrangement is exactly as described in the printed details. Recently we were sad to lose our long-standing elderly neighbour. His property has been sold and is being developed into a luxury dwelling. Work started last winter and halted during the summer. Because of the age and nature of the site, the District Conservation Officer has been advising. It may not look great over the fence but at least it is very quiet! The view in the other direction is unaffected. By coincidence our other neighbours are also having work done this year and waiting for new windows which are due before the end of August, so the guest missed this activity by a couple of weeks.

A lovely compact, quirky little cottage which is ideal for a short stay for 1 -2 people only. Quite remote and a little difficult to find but once there beautiful. Now where to sit outside by the cottage except by the front door (where the car is parked). Close to lots of loacal attractions - you could probably walk to the local pub/shop.

Beautiful holiday home, very peaceful and quite . The only problem for us was that it to was a long walk to the village and we had to take the car, but easy to park . Wonderful bus service and we had a lovely day in Kings Lynn.

lovely location and a beautiful cottage. Only downfall was the building site, however when the building work next door is complete we shall visit again. The Cottage is just idyllic, we had a very relaxing weekend. Fully equipped and very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this cottage.

It was a lovely cottage but we were a bit surprised at all the building work going on around outside. However when we went inside the cottage we were very pleased. It was all done to a high standard and it was lovely upstairs. Downstairs was not quite so good as there was not a lot of room in the shower room, although the shower cubicle itself was good. There was not a lot of room in the bedroom to hang clothes, although this did not cause us a problem! We realise that it is someone's house and it was lovely to be able to rent this property with all the owners ornaments, books etc around. The view out of the front window was wonderful and I spent many minutes looking out of there at the lovely surroundings. Overall we really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. Many thanks to the owner.

This cottage was not suitable for us, we knew it was on 2 levels but we were not made aware of the steepness of the stairs, I have some mobility problems, I can normally cope with stairs but these were very steep on the second flight, this should be pointed out in the property description.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; This is strange, as we are unaware the stairs are unusually steep - this is a normal modern carpeted staircase in a converted property. There are a few more stairs than in a normal house because the property is very tall. The height (rise) of each stair is 8in which I believe is normal in a domestic property. I should add that the property has been regularly inspected by Wyndham Vacations and this issue has never been identified or discussed, just as no one else in 12 years of letting have commented on this aspect. Looking again, the stairs seems to be a commercial design and assembled on site and would have met building regulations at the time of the property conversion. We are surprised by the comment especially as it was not discussed with me. Nor was any disability or special needs raised ahead of the visit. Finally, this is listed as a 'heritage property' with many exposed beams, which paints the picture that this is a character building that has been modernised to current standards. The stairs are shown in a new set of photos on the cottages.com website which were only taken a few weeks ago.
