Gorgeous chapel conversion with beautiful views, perfectly placed for visiting the coast and the western Lakes.

This beautiful stone chapel with an original dove tower, once owned by John Myers, cousin of William Wordsworth, has been restored keeping its character with original oak beams, exposed stone walls and locally mined slate. The Chapel is quiet and romantic and enjoys beautiful views of the Whicham Valley, Black Combe Fell, and the Coniston fells at the top of the valley. The Chapel is arranged with the living area on the upper floor to maximise the fell and valley views, and there is a woodburner for those cosy evenings. It also boasts a large bathroom with a freestanding bath and large wet room style shower. A paradise for lovers of wildlife and birds, the cottage is located amongst 5 acres of garden and woodland, and surrounded by fields in a separate area of a working farm in the Lake District National Park. There are wonderful walks from the cottage and just 1 mile away is the Irish sea and a beautiful dog friendly beach at Silecroft. The Whicham Valley is remote, unspoilt and an idyllic corner of the Lake District, ideal for walkers, mountain bikers, climbers, nature lovers and those enjoying the peace and beauty of the countryside. The Duddon Valley, Southern Lakes and fells are easily reached with Coniston Water, Ennerdale Water, Wastwater, and Lake Windermere all within half an hour’s drive. Visit Muncaster Castle, La’al Ratty Miniature Steam Railway or the South Lakes Wild Animal Park. Horse riding is available nearby including Cumbria Heavy Horses and beach rides at Silecroft. Massage and beauty treatments can be arranged nearby or at the cottage. The Chapel (26506) can be booked together with Fell View Cottage (W44181) to accommodate up to 7 guests. Beach 1¾ miles. There was no welcome pack on our arrival. Bathroom taps were loose, kitchen facilities/ utensils poor. Although it was lovely having horses on the doorstep, there were so many flies in the chapel as a result, but no sprays etc to deal with this. The garden was very unkempt and like a building site with scaffolding, which made it rather unpleasant to sit and relax in - plus no garden furniture apart from a bench that had seen better days. Needless to say our stay was less than enjoyable and we left a day early.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- Unfortunately we had no contact from our guest on this occasion to resolve any concerns. We have checked the taps and added some new utensils, our welcome pack generally includes flowers and a gift of local items although we can arrange for other items if notified. The garden to the front of the Chapel is mowed regularly and has furniture. We are finalising some work on a property nearby finishing in August which is small scale and does not affect the Chapel, please note this is not part of the garden for the Chapel and the garden/furniture for that property is not yet ready so not really suitable for guests to use which seems to have happened here. The whole property is surrounded by farmland with wildlife and this can include flies, bees and other insects particularly when farmers cut for silage in the summer which is limited to just a couple of weeks and is not unusual in rural areas so we don't feel there is a need to use harsh sprays but happy to supply that if guests contact us if concerned.

Beautiful & quirky but tranquil location & an ideal get away from it all base. Lovely place to unwind with the dog, but you Will need to drive to get the best from this location. Lots of interesting and beautiful places to visit within an hrs drive & stay off the main routes to really get the best feel for the area. Our Dog Bella had a great time swimming in nearly all the south lakes & most of the rivers too Ps the beach is 3 mins drive as well.
