Description

Gorgeous chapel conversion with beautiful views, perfectly placed for visiting the coast and the western Lakes.

This beautiful stone chapel with an original dove tower, once owned by John Myers, cousin of William Wordsworth, has been restored keeping its character with original oak beams, exposed stone walls and locally mined slate. The Chapel, located on Po House Farm along with the owners home, is quiet and romantic and enjoys beautiful views of the Whicham Valley, Black Combe Fell, and the Coniston fells at the top of the valley. The Chapel is arranged with the living area on the upper floor to maximise the fell and valley views, and there is a woodburner for those cosy evenings. It also boasts a large bathroom with a freestanding bath and large wet room style shower. A paradise for lovers of wildlife and birds, the cottage is located amongst 5 acres of garden and woodland, and surrounded by fields in the Lake District National Park. There are wonderful walks from the cottage and just 1 mile away is the Irish sea and a beautiful dog friendly beach at Silecroft. The Whicham Valley is remote, unspoilt and an idyllic corner of the Lake District, ideal for walkers, mountain bikers, climbers, nature lovers and those enjoying the peace and beauty of the countryside. The Duddon Valley, Southern Lakes and fells are easily reached with Coniston Water, Ennerdale Water, Wastwater, and Lake Windermere all within half an hour’s drive. Visit Muncaster Castle, La’al Ratty Miniature Steam Railway or the South Lakes Wild Animal Park. Horse riding is available nearby including Cumbria Heavy Horses and beach rides at silecroft. Massage and beauty treatments can be arranged nearby or at the cottage. The Chapel (26506) can be booked with Po House (W43403) to accommodate up to 7 guests. Beach 1 mile. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

the information given was very misleading, it claimed that the pub was within 1 mile truth is 1.85 miles including half a mile on main road with no pavement. it claimed the beach was a mile from the property when it is a further mile from the pub. it was a pity that previous guests had not cleaned up the dog mess that the lawns were covered in when we got there.

Lovely break spent at Po House Chapel, secluded spot, suited us well but within easy reach of beach for walks with dog and 30 mins drive to coniston and Windermere, eskdale steam railway also great attraction. Fantastic views from the cottage, especially with living area on 1st floor, we were family of 3 including 12 yr old plus dog (sofa bed was fine). Only thing that desperately needs replacing is the ill fitting toilet seat!

Just got back from a 4 night break at po house chapel. What a delight! A home from home, very spacious, warm and comfortable. The views are wonderful, and it was so peaceful, bed was comfy too! Good location, this was my first time staying in the Lake District and it did not disappoint, easy to drive to points of interest, we went to buttermere weds, Windermere Tuesday and climbed Scafell pike Thursday, a must do! We had dinner in a pub called the blacksmiths arms about 20min drive away from the chapel, would highly recommend! If you do go to Windermere, go to the choccobar, best hot chocolate ever! All in all enjoyed our stay, loved the Lake District, what a beautiful place and can't wait to return! Thank you to the owners!

This was a perfect bolt hole for us and our 2 dogs. Loved the layout and location, fabulous walking only minutes from the door. Could have done with a little more kitchen equipment, eg teapot and casserole dish; and the lighting could have been better - I struggled to read in the evenings. However these are very minor issues. We had a very comfortable stay and loved the seclusion!

Po Chapel is wonderful. If you want a 'get away from it all' holiday it is a perfect choice. It is so quiet, warm, comfortable and clean; and accepts well-behaved dogs! Thank you to Louise for the fabulous welcome pack (the best ever) to help settle us in for Christmas, and for being a completely unobtrusive host. The location is superb, being far enough away from the roads to be safe and quiet for pets, yet not far for Millom or Broughton-in-Furness for supplies. It is a great base for exploring the south/ south west lakes. Lots of dog-friendly pubs around (Miner's Arms in Silecroft and pretty much all pubs in Broughton). Wonderful walks from the door. Plenty of wildlife - if you are lucky you will see deer in the adjoining field as I did on Christmas Eve (a lovely memory to bring home). We never tired of the scenery and views from the cottage - super place. Only downside for some may be the lack of wifi - we used roaming or found pubs and cafes to use it - it would be nice to have it there though in these days of technology! TV signal is also a bit hit and miss, but hey! you are on holiday - read a book or play chess as we did! Overall a fab' stay with our dog for his first Christmas with us.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thanks for the fantastic review, glad you enjoyed the Chapel at Christmas! Just an update on the Wi-Fi, we understand that even though people want to get away into the wilderness, they also want to access internet and email, BT installed a new line direct into the Cottage and can confirm this is now up and running (as of 3 Feb 2016) so the previous issues with the Wi-Fi are resolved. There is a new TV aerial which picks up Freeview which normally works fine but we had some extreme weather in December which may have affected the signal temporarily.

Po House Chapel is a truly great place to squirrel yourself away. We had the worst weather and therefore have some suggestions rather than criticisms that would have staying indoors even more fab than it was. Some games, cards and maybe books (a swap could be introduced) and DVDs. There is no wifi and a number of sites say there is. My husband runs his own business and we would have preferred to have been more prepared for this. The building is beautiful and we both felt thoroughly relaxed when we left. We will be back.

Super property. A big comfy sofa would have made it even better. The only downside is no wifi but that didn't stop us loving the chapel.

    Response from: administrator

Response on behalf of the owner; Thanks for the lovely review, the sofa is the biggest one we can get into the Chapel given access issues in an old building but it is a 3 seater. Update on Wifi – we are installing a new independent line to the Chapel as the Wifi signal was too weak from the router in main building. Unfortunately Outreach appointments for new lines have been delayed due to general Cumbria flooding issues but we expect to go live with the Wifi on 6th Jan ’16. The property and local area were thankfully unaffected by the floods and access roads from M6 fully open.

A super little cottage. We came here for a quiet get-away and it's near perfect. Very clean, well-equipped (complete with wood-burning stove and DVD player), comfortable bed, great views (when weather permits) and an impressive bathroom. It looks a bit out of the way, but it's well worth it - and the welcome gifts were much appreciated. I'm still not sure whether the lack of Wi-Fi is a good or a bad thing, but the guidebook does mention the closest internet cafes if you're missing out. It's not too far to the nearest supermarkets (Millom, and they're reasonably large) or the nearest walks (you can actually walk along paths from the cottage along the hills) and the bakery in Broughton in Furness is very nice. A great little getaway - I just wish we'd had longer there!

Gorgeous cottage and setting. Note: not able to walk to the beach or to the nearest village as i had previously thought although this wasn't a problem for us. Louise, the owner, is very friendly and most helpful. The reason i scored the cleanliness down slightly is possibly more to do with previous occupants i think and the fact that pots needed cleaned before using.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for the positive review. For the reference of future guests, we are located in a rural rather than village / town location with plenty of walks from the door, the beach at Silecroft is a 5 minute drive to a big, free car park and the nearest shops around a 10 minute drive. If people are coming without a car, local supermarkets will deliver food if pre booked and the beach is actually within reach by foot, you just need to follow an “A” road for a short stretch. Sorry about the pots on this occasion, usually checked between stays to ensure no issues, please let us know during your stay if there are any problems, we are happy to assist where needed if anything falls short of our usual high standards.
