Description

Ideal retreat for couples with access from the bedroom directly into the owners’ walled garden with bird and wildlife in the area.

This 18th century former gardeners cottage is quietly situated on the edge of the ruined William Adam designed Mavisbank Estate. It forms a wing of the owners house, their large attractive walled garden can be gained by a French door in the spacious bedroom. The surrounding area attracts an abundance of wild and birdlife. Tastefully furnished and decorated, it makes an excellent holiday base for touring with easy access to Roslyn Chapel (where ’The Da Vinci Code’ was filmed), the Borders, East Lothian, and Fife. Edinburgh centre, 7 miles. Fishing, riding, golf, dry ski slope nearby. Shops and pubs 1½ miles.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room. Kitchen. 1 double bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Oil central heating included (£25per week October-April). Electricity, bed linen and towels included. Video and small library. CD. Microwave. Washing machine. Shared use of large garden with ruined Palladian gazebo and furniture. Barbecue. Parking. No smoking. NB: There is a pond in the garden.

We spent three nights away from our kids relaxing, reading, walking and drinking lots of wine. Lovely little retreat.

Location was excellent for visiting Edinburgh - a car is essential. Cottage was well equipped - did not have a hand blender which is really useful in winter for making soup! I found it quite cool even with the heaters on - I am sure it would be fine in summer. I loved Saffron the dog - it made one feel at home if you are a dog person. I got locked out of the property as there was a front gate and I did not know the code - the owner should warn visitors that the gate is locked on weekends and give them the code. Owner was most helpful and friendly. Plenty of places nearby to visit and for food.
