Description

Blackdown Hills an AONB, between Honiton and Chard, offer great walks and with Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, and Exeter all easily accessible.

In a glorious setting in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and between Honiton and Chard, lie The Barns around a cobbled yard. Both detached holiday barn conversions are decorated and furnished to a good standard andhave their own gardens and fabulous views across the countryside. Situated in the grounds of the owner’s Grade II listed, medieval farmhouse, they are in an excellent location from which to explore numerous National Trust houses, great walks and the cathedral city of Exeter. Also within easy driving distance is the famous World Heritage Coast, as well as the seaside resorts of Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Beer, Branscombe and Exmouth. Situated between both Dartmoor and Exmoor National parks, both with brilliant walks, heather clad tors, ponies, rugged terrain and quaint villages. Within six miles there are local family run shops and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen. Shops 21/2 miles and pub 1½ miles. In a glorious setting in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and between Honiton and Chard, lie The Barns around a cobbled yard. This is a fabulous cottage and one of the nicest ones we've stayed in.It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We loved the lovely bright open plan layout with great views over the gardens. The fire was great and a huge basket of logs was left for us and the fire was already laid for us on arrival which was a nice touch. The cottage is situated up the lanes but we didn't find this a problem and it was convenient to reach Branscombe,Beer and Lyme Regis. Some people might find an issue with access from the parking as this is over uneven cobbles.Tricky with walking trainers on so no high heels! Also Wifi would be nice but the cottage is so nice,we didn't miss it all.Would definitely return!

This is by far the BEST holiday cottage we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in MANY. The location, the tranquility, the proximity to shops, the style of the property and most of all the VIEWS are absolutely to die for. We will definitely be coming back here again and again. There is no WIFI but that was a blessing in disguise and if we can survive a week with no internet considering we both run online businesses, anyone can. Please book this cottage - you won't be disappointed!

We enjoyed the Shippon very much, with lovely views over the Devon countryside. It has a very up-to-date interior, the kitchen in particular is very well equipped, and everything is clean and in near-new condition. The location was good, except that the nearest pub was over 3 miles away, accessed through very narrow roads just wide enough for one car. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes for the drive home, depending how often you have to back up to pass another car of tractor. The biggest negative about the Shippon is the lack of Wi-Fi access, which is not available inside the house, but a weak signal can be picked up when standing in the adjacent grassy field - not really acceptable in today's world. Also, a coffee table in the living room would be a nice addition
