English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Enjoy great walks on the Blackdown Hills, and with the cathedral city of Exeter anf Hugh Fernley Whittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen close by.

In a glorious setting in the Blackdown Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and between Honiton and Chard, lie The Barns around a cobbled yard. Both detached holiday barn conversions are decorated and furnished to a good standard and have their own gardens and fabulous views across the countryside. Situated in the grounds of the owner’s Grade II listed, medieval farmhouse, they are in an excellent location from which to explore numerous National Trust houses, great walks and the cathedral city of Exeter. Also within easy driving distance is the famous World Heritage Coast, as well as the seaside resorts of Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Beer, Branscombe and Exmouth. Situated between both Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks, both with brilliant walks, heather clad tors, ponies, rugged terrain and quaint villages. Within six miles there are local family run shops and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen. Shops 2½ miles and pub 1½ miles.

Spacious beamed living/dining room with kitchen area and tiled floor. Twin bedroom with zip and link beds (can be double bed on request) and additional single bed (for +1). Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. First floor: Galleried area with double bed.

We had a lovely stay at The Hayloft in Oct for 2 weeks. The location of the property is perfect for anyone wanting to get away and just relax without hearing any noise as it's lovely and remote. The property is so well equipped with everything you could need. The owners were lovely and met us on arrival and showed us everything we needed to know. People have said about the 'musty' smell in the property which was apparent to us unfortunately as my sister and I are both asthma suffers, however in all fairness to the owners I think they have done everything possible to try to sort the problem and we saw no signs mould on the walls, we just opened the windows when possible to air. I would stay at the property again as the location was stunning and it's was lovely listening to the wildlife. Making a perfect base for places we enjoy visiting. Thank you to the owners of The Hayloft, we had a wonderful 2 week stay.

The most tranquil place we've ever been & that's with 2 children! The lovely warm reception we got from Jane the owner was great & she made ud feel at home. The views from the cottage were outstanding. We can't wait to return.
