First thing to say is that this cottage is in an ideal location for visiting London & areas south which is why we chose it. However it wasn't quite the ideal rural spot we hoped for. That is because it sits beside a road that is obviously used by commuters going into London. Yes the road is rural but the traffic starts about 5.30 am & as the vehicles can do 50 mph on that stretch it did seem very noisy at times. The cottage is also on the flight path from Gatwick which is not far away & whilst low flying aircraft kept the kids entertained at times, it can be annoying late at night or very early in the morning if you are not used to it. Of course it's location is simply that but it just wasn't what we expected. The cottage could also do with a bit of TLC. All of us felt that it was probably very nice 15 years ago but not much has been upgraded or changed since. So for example my son & daughter in law, who are both teachers, felt the kitchen cupboards resembled something found in a school staff room with lots of mis-matched cups, glasses, plates etc. All in all our week was okay & the barn was an okay place to stay but we wouldn't return if We were looking to stay in that area again.

We have stayed at the Barn on 3 occasions but found the furnishings to be old and need of replacement. The beds are uncomfortable and the sofas are starting to collapse. A little disappointing as we have enjoyed our stay in the past.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We were sorry you were not 100% satisfied on your latest visit. We welcome feedback and pride ourselves on our usual high rating. We do our very best to maintain a clean and comfortable high standard, whilst respecting the rustic nature and features of the Grade II listed barn. We renew and update items as necessary - Major items this year have included a full repainting of the outside of the Barn, the installation of a new gas boiler, a new gas barbecue and new sun lounger cushions. Other refurbishment and updating is planned to continue on a routine basis. Your comments on specific items, which could be subject to personal preference, will be investigated and detailed checks will be carried out. Please understand we don't lie on the beds or sit on the sofas during turnaround in-between guests - they are only cleaned and checked for visual damage. Many of our guests return and we hope to see you back for your fourth visit!

We found it slightly hard to find the barn as signage on the road is poor and the dropped pin on Google maps provided was showing in a slightly different location. The owner of the house had a large Brexit "vote leave" sign outside which isn't very welcoming when you are European and are arriving at the property. Despite first impressions the welcome was very warm and the host was helpful. The house is very well equipped and spacious. There are plenty of toys for kids, baby bed and chair, laundry is easy to do with a washing machine and dryer there. There is a BBQ outside and the kitchen has everything one needs to cook. Some larger pots could be provided. Floor boards on the top floor are a bit sqeaky and walls are thin so when kids are sleeping you have to be mindful about noise levels downstairs. The bathroom upstairs could do with a little updating the bathtub has some cracks where my son scraped his skin on while sitting in the bath. There is quite a bit of traffic outside the barn with people coming and going all day so it would be ideal if the self contained cottage garden could be shut with a gate when you have kids. There is a gate but it wasn't stretching across the entire drive and it looked broken. Overall, We had a comfortable stay at the barn and the hosts were very helpful and concerned to make our stay enjoyable.
