Paula is so welcoming and made us feel right at home. After working all year, relaxing in The Barn, with the log fire burning and a glass of wine in hand, what more could you want?! There is even a fabulous fish and chip shop just across the road, and a village pub which serves amazing steak dinners and is pet friendly too. Huby village is a great base to travel to York, as well as the lovely market towns of Thirsk and Helmsley and the seaside towns of Filey and Scarborough. We look forward to visiting again.

A lovely little barn that is comfortable and relaxing. The surrounding areas are beautiful and the owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome. My husband and I have been here three times now and we do not usually visit the same place more than once. Love it!

Lovely cottage. Good location. Owners made us very welcome. Enclosed large garden for dog. Although in grounds of owners felt private.

This is a very clean, well-equipped and nicely presented property, well-located for York and the national parks. Whilst small, it has everything you could need and is well thought out and comfortable. The owners are very relaxed, friendly and welcoming. The downside to this property for us was the shared garden - it's not clear from the details / photographs, but it's shared between the owners' house, their business and the barn. I think it's important to know this so other dog owners, or people with small children, can make an informed choice - we wouldn't have booked anything with a shared garden by choice. We found that the gate to the busy main road outside was sometimes left open, so we had to keep our dog on lead. There is a large gated garden at the back of the property where she could be free to roam, but by the end of the week there was a rabbit in a hutch there, so we couldn't let her off there again - she's reactive and she wouldn't leave it alone. The garden arrangements did reduce our enjoyment and we wouldn't choose this property again for that reason alone.

    1. The "secure garden" was shared with the owners and the gate at the road end was permanently left open by the owners, who lived in the main house. The second gate, which was halfway down the driveway, was regularly left open by the owner, even after we had shut it. This was extremely inconvenient for us, as we like to leave a door open and allow our dog free run of the garden whenever he wants it. In fact, what we had to do was check the gate every time and then take our dog on a lead to the bottom half of the garden (with the pond) and shut that gate before allowing him off lead. Also, as the owner had up to 4 dogs in her charge at times, and two permanently hers, the garden was littered with dog poo and we had to be careful where we walked when taking our dog into the garden. Although the owner did clear up the dog poo on a daily basis, this was not sufficient. I always clear up my dog's poo as soon as he has done it. 2. The beds in the second bedroom were short beds meant for children. I am only 5'2" but my toes were hanging off the end of the bed and I did not sleep well at all in these cramped conditions. So much so, that we left on the Thursday evening as I could not face another night sleeping in that bed. 3. The "freezer" was just a small freezer compartment in the fridge. We had arranged a delivery of groceries shortly after our arrival, and based on the information given that there was a freezer, we had ordered frozen food accordingly and this did not all fit in the small freezer compartment. In view of the above, I feel the cottage did not represent value for money. The redeeming factors for this cottage are that the local amenities - pubs and shop - are excellent and the owners were very friendly.
