Just returned from a wonderful weekend away at The Barn with my Brother and his wife who are visiting from Australia. An ideal location for exploring the beautiful area in and around The Forest of Dean. We all have fabulous memories to take away with us, including; a steam train trip on the Dean Forest Railway; a cycle through the wonderful colourful woodland around Mallard's Pike; the magnificent views from Symmonds Yatt Rock; a visit to Goodrich Castle with a guided tour through its amazingly rich history and not least, the wonderful friendliness and hospitality of the local people. The Barn is also ideally located for visiting the many pretty Cotswold villages. A perfect week's stay and wish we could have stayed longer!

Lovely holiday cottage. Very impressed with the quality of the accommodation, exceptionally good value. The barn is a beautiful building that very much lives upto its pictures. We were a little surprised it is so close into the town and main roads. However the noise wasn't noticeable and it made it very convenient for travelling. There is plenty of space for a large family to all be together, with a large dining table, big kitchen if you want to cook and comfy lounge but also enough rooms to have some time apart when needed. The pool table was a big hit, and I'm sure if the weather had been better the large garden would have been too. For such a large property it felt surprisingly cosy and warm. Very good.

Large 4 bedroomed house in nice grounds with good leisure facilities (pool table, videos, books etc) on site, not to mention golf course next door! However, let down by noisy plumbing, small 4th bedroom with no opening windows, and limited access to toilets (4 bedrooms, 4 toilets, but two of which were in one bedroom!). If these were resolved, we would happily stay there again.

The Barn was such a spacious, well equipped, perfectly clean and comfortable place to stay for our party of 9. The garden was a pretty and peaceful area to spend time on sunny days with so much space for children to run around; and when inside the living spaces were large and airy and we enjoyed many games of pool! A great stay, thank you.

Owing to very good weather we were able to sit out for all our meal,in a large private, peaceful garden. The Barn is a lovely property, well equipped kitchen, very comfortable lounge. The dinning room also had a pool table, which was enjoyed by all, even though the cue tips were worn or missing. The main bedroom shower controls were ineffective, the water was really hot,so using it was uncomfortable. Overall all our guests and myself really enjoyed our stay, and would recommend the Barn.

2 Issues: 1 Microwave plate did not rotate, reported this to the owners on 29th May but no action was taken. As it was a family holiday this was inconvenient. 2 Main bedroom had a large double bed with 2 sets of bedding on. This was not suitable. I reported this after our holiday last year and expected appropriate bedding on.

Excellent location in the beautiful and interesting "Forest of Dean". No need to go far in the car for lovely places and adventure . Golf from the garden gate , on a friendly inviting course particularly a bonus to us! And perfect for family cycling in the forest and by the river Wye . Great for the family , with games easy garden , fire pit , and a pool table.

Fantastic house. All the bedrooms are a good size...the biggest is huge. Good location, we did a 14km walk from the house to Symonds Yat and back. The garden is lovely and the house is fully equipped. I would definitely recommend staying here!

A sumptuous and architecturally sound conversion. It offers a plethora of space and freedom throughout the cottage, which is very warm. The large and enclosed garden is a delight for children of all ages, with ample parking. Unfortunately the cottage is in need of some tender loving care by the caretaker/cleaner. When we arrived only two out of six lights were working in the kitchen, and the lights over the cooker were out, making the room dark and dangerous...obviously they had not been checked for a long time. The bathroom lights were also out making this room dismal, other shades about the cottage were broken. After complaining, the lights were replaced after 3 days, by the caretaker who came unannounced, and the kitchen looked beautiful again as it should. The amount of wine and general drinking glasses fell far short of the inventory, and a dismal effort, in fact no effort was made to replace them, in the six remaining days we were there as if it didn't matter. The crockery and certain items of cutlery are well past their shelf life. Everyday we found woodlice roaming around the floor, and cobwebs in corners never checked by the cleaners. We also saw large stains on the dinning room carpet. In conclusion it is a lovely home from home cottage, in a beautiful area of the country, but sadly lacking some TLC management and prompt consideration of guests concerns and comfort.

I marked The Barn down on value for money for one sole purpose. During the school holidays the price goes up ridiculously compared to term times. The cottage itself is stunning, we couldn't of asked for a better cottage. The pool table went down a treat to all, and the PlayStation 2 was a treat to the children and a cause of nostalgia to the adults. The local area is ok, we wouldn't recommend the pub nearby unfortunately, however there are many local attractions that we would recommend. Puzzlewood is stunning, Clearwell Caves, although slightly expensive were also stunning. I would most definitely recommend The Barn to family and friends.
