Converted from a local bank, this property is ideally located for a peaceful break in Aberdeenshire.

This unusual holiday property has been imaginatively converted from the local bank to extremely good effect. It features a wonderful spiral staircase which ascends from the bright, airy living room to the master bedroom. Set in the heart of the quiet traditional fishing village of Whitehills, visitors can easily walk down to the quaint harbour and marina, where locally caught fish can be bought. A walk along the rocky shoreline towards Boyndie Bay with views towards Banff makes an enjoyable afternoon, or visit the villages of Crovie and Pennan (of Local Hero fame), which cling to the rocky coastline further to the east. The Moray Firth is known for its mild climate, lovely sandy beaches and dolphin sightings. Shop 10 yards.

    Cottage was lovely. Owners have gone to a lot of trouble to furnish it. However they have forgotten about the practicalities of living. There is no hanging space in the bedrooms. There is one single wardrobe in the lounge. The freezer in the bedroom could not be used as it was too noisy for sleeping. The boiler continually switched itself off and on. It's not functioning as it should. The spiral staircase does not comply with building control regulations and in my view is dangerous for children. The lower support on the stairs stops in mid air. In the kitchen there was limited space for our own food stuffs. This was due to an over abundance of crockery - tea set, dinner set, everyday dinner set and glasses galore. At night the light from the street sign could not be blocked out as the curtains would have completely covered the radiators. The blinds need to be blackout type. If these issues were addressed we would consider returning.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. We were rather disappointed to read your comments about The Aul’ Bank. We note your comment in regard to the lack of wardrobe space and will put a rail with hangers upstairs to create more hanging space. It is unfortunate that you found the freezer to be noisy, we are not aware of any issues with the appliance and no comments have been made by our previous guests. Again, we are not aware of any issues with the central heating. The boiler is serviced annually and no faults were found on the recent yearly check. The spiral staircase is advertised within the property description and clearly shown within the photographs on the website. Where we consider the staircase not to be dangerous, we do understand that it may not be suitable for young children therefore we state that no children under the age of 6 years are allowed at the property. This information is also available within the property description on the website. The kitchen is well equipped and guests that have visited us since your stay have commented that it had everything they needed. In regard to the light, this is operated by the council and we have no control over its operation however, we will investigate your comments further and add blackout blinds if needed. We are always looking to make our property more comfortable for our guests and ourselves as we spend our holidays there too. We regret that you did not contact us whilst you were in residence as we may have been able to assist in some way to make your stay more comfortable. We trust that you enjoyed your stay in Whitehills and we hope to welcome you back to the area soon.

    This property is a nice place for the right person, someone who likes contemporary features, layout of lounge and upstairs could do with some thought but what spoiled it for us was that there was no tea or coffee which we have had iin most other holiday lets but definitely TOILET ROLLS. You don't expect that the first thing you have to do is go and buy these.

    Although proprietor was very helpful, there were persistent problems with the gas boiler(which were eventually repaired)which affected showering and having hot water and heating.To be fair, we were offered alternative accommodation, but it was sufficiently close to end of holiday to not be worth the effort. Upstairs bed,having a footboard,restricted its use for tall people.Shower seal leaked at the bottom of door allowing much leakage on to bathroom floor. Whitehills was a pleasant harbour village with two good restaurants. Directions were incorrect as being "opposite Post Office" is not now correct as Post Office has moved.
