We enjoyed our stay at the Apple Store. It was convenient to Stonehenge, Bath and Salisbury as well as many other great scenic attractions.

Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves but lacking privacy

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are so glad you enjoyed yourselves, it’s always a balancing act isn’t it? We have to choose between not leaving our guests to their own devices and their feeling a bit neglected, and paying them enough attention and asking if everything is ok so we can put it right if not. It’s always tricky.

Had a great week at the Apple store with our 2 dogs. They spent hours playing the garden with the resident flat coated retrievers. The owners were very friendly and made sure our stay was perfect. The accomodation was spotless and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Wifi worked really well for us so we could plan our days out. The three daggers pub is just up the road which is really good for food.

Cottage was everything you could want, spotlessly clean peaceful location and lovely views. Owners welcoming with milk, bread, butter a nice surprise. An added bonus was I stayed an extra 2 nights. Would stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay at the Apple Store. We found the cottage to be very clean and had everything we needed. We were generally out and about during the day, but would enjoy relaxing there in the evenings when we'd watch the box sets we brought with us. There is a lovely sitting out area, but we didn't use this as it was still too chilly in March for us to utilise this. The cottage gave us a good base to visit a variety of places. The owner was there to welcome us when we arrived and able to make a number of recommendations regarding where to eat, visit and car parking.

Ok so the good – there is clearly lots to do around Wiltshire, especially if you're National Trust members. The cottage is very convenient for many local attractions, and the walk with our dogs to the nearby deer park was very pleasant. Chris the gentleman owner was also absolutely lovely. The bad – as other reviewers online have stated, the property description and photographs are at best very misleading. The cottage is not on the edge of the owners garden, it's three feet from their home and therefore very overlooked. Every window is directly in the line of sight of the owner’s home, so as such, we had an unpleasant feeling of being observed all week. We had to bleach the shower to rid it of a significant amount of mould build up, and vacuum the floors properly on day one. The cottage is generally in need of a proper deep and thorough clean – there are cobwebs and layers of dust every where. The oven trays wouldn't be out of place in the museum at Stonehenge – grim! We were on holiday with our one year old son, and given the very low standards of hygiene and cleanliness I would honestly say the accommodation is not suitable for a family. The worst part however, was being accosted by the hypersensitive and slightly hysterical female owner (which I presume she was, as she never actually introduced herself or asked how our holiday was!) of the property before I had even turned the handle on the front door on our second day, to be told that the previous guest’s dog had defecated in the hallway, and therefore can our housetrained dogs not be left in there! I was already slightly uneasy about the standard of cleanliness in the property, but to be told this, didn't help matters!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We always encourage guests to tell us immediately if something isn’t right so we can address their concerns while they’re with us. We always aim to remedy any issues as quickly as possible. The Apple Store is in the garden of our cottage, in a converted outbuilding – but is much further than three feet from our house. It is nearby, but not hugely overlooked - we like our privacy as well! Inside The Apple Store there are venetian and blackout blinds, and voile curtains, and there’s a screen around part of the patio too, all of which maximise your privacy. Most of our guests though, say they appreciate how easy it is to get any problems resolved or their questions answered and directions and advice about what’s on locally, because we’re on hand to help. Although we don’t claim to be perfect, our hygiene and cleaning practice is very important to us as shown by our average review of 9.3, prior to your review. The Apple Store is thoroughly cleaned after every occupancy and checked by us. We were very surprised to read your comments because before your visit, extra attention was needed due to the previous guests and their dogs. This cleaning included our oven, which is only 4 years old. Despite your review, we do have sympathy for you. It’s hard going on holiday with pets however small or much-loved, and especially with an anti-social dog (which attacked our neighbour’s dog). And yes, being pet-owners ourselves we are keen to see that our animal visitors have a good time as well as our human guests. Luckily 99% of our guests and dogs are delightful. Because your dog had clearly been distressed at being left alone so long, we decided one of us had to draw your attention to this - a difficult tasks but done tactfully according to the person who witnessed it. It is very unfortunate that you didn’t have a good time, and we’re sorry that you didn’t, however this is a stand-alone review amongst the complimentary and very high ratings so we wonder if your review might relate to your holiday experience rather than a reasonable reflection of The Apple Store.
