Welcome Cottages

Lakeside, seaside, countryside, hillside...wherever you can picture your perfect cottage, you'll find it with Welcome Cottages!

Tawnawood is perfect for cyclists and walkers looking to explore the Cornish countryside and coastline.

Equidistant from both of Cornwall’s spectacular coastlines and nestling in delightful woodland, these thoughtfully converted barns are set in sunny, pleasantly landscaped gardens, each with its own patio. Retaining all the character and charm of original structural features, including exposed beams and stone walls, they have been furnished in keeping with their rustic simplicity. Tawnawood has a first floor landing and a door to a balcony with wonderful valley views. Peacefully positioned on a private drive beyond the owner’s home, and accessed by a narrow country lane, they enjoy fine views across the valley towards National Trust Lanhydrock House and its formal gardens. Lanhydrock House is 1¼ miles away and features several cycle trails, including a gentle trail for families throughout its grounds and into bluebell woods. There is also cycle hire, free parking and a café. Beaches of both the north and south coasts are about 15 miles away, some popular and offering fishing, sailing and surfing, others small and secluded; the coastal path is a continuous drama of cliff and sea and sky. There is excellent walking in the surrounding area and cycling in Cardinham Woods with dedicated, scenic cycle trails for those wanting more of a challenge, and an excellent café for refreshments. Restormel Castle and Lostwithiel, both 4 miles. Bodmin, 3 miles, has shops, cycle hire, swimming-pool, sports centre, inns, restaurants and golf. Bodmin Steam Railway can be heard in the distance within the valley. Riding locally. Wadebridge and Camel Trail cycle hire 7 miles. Padstow 12 miles, Fowey 10 miles and the Eden Project 8 miles. Shops 3 miles.

Living room with sofa bed and French windows. Dining room/kitchen. First floor: Landing and door to balcony with wonderful valley views. 2 bedrooms, 1 double (5ft), 1 twin, both with wooden floor. Bathroom with spa bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

Woodburner in living room (fuel at cost). Balcony.

Both properties: Electric heaters and electricity by meter reading. Bed linen included. Cot. High chair on request. Digital TV. DVD. Microwave. Shared utility room with washer/dryer and ‘fun’ table tennis. Patio and garden furniture. Shared garden. Shared barbecue. Parking. Natural water supply from owner’s borehole.

We had a great time at Tawnawood. Cottage is ideally located for travelling around Cornwall. 30 minutes to Looe, Padstow and Newquay. 45 minutes to St Ives and 1hr q5 to Penzanze. Cottage is 5 minutes drive to morrisons and is set on the outskirts of a lovely wood with lots of walking and biking trails. Horses and sheep right next to cottage.

Very nice cottage, very central to visit Cornwall. Everything was perfect, as we had the chance to have sun we would have enjoy a bigger table to take some diner outside.

Garden not very big, had to pay for the electrics, I believe the fire flue required cleaning.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It does have a steep approach which could be tricky during the winter, but was absolutely fine when we were there in the spring, even after some rain. The cottage was very pretty and well decorated (may be apart from the avocado bathroom, which could do with a bit of an update, but that's more of a personal preference!) and we loved all the quirky wood and character elements. The wood burning stove is also an amazing feature and made everything very cozy. Lovely having the woods at the bottom of the hill for walks and the coffee shop there serves a brilliant cream tea as well as a good selection of other delicious goodies. The location is wonderful as you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, but actually you can easily access a lot of places to visit such as The Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Helligan, Fowey, Lanhydrock etc. The house was quite well equipped for basic meal preparation and the beds were nice and comfy. The electric meter reading was easy and relatively inexpensive. We'd like to go back again.

Lovely little cottage loved the log burner, plenty of blankets to keep warm as does get abit drafty. Great location near bodmin, steap narrow hill getting up to the cottage so handy I took my little car. Nice quiet area owner was lovely made sure we had everything we needed. Loved it plan to go back again later in the year.

Overall it was a good place for what we needed but having to pay for the electricity we used and leaving the money on the table was a poor touch, for a house that sleeps 6 people 1 parking space was not enough, couldn't get from the car to the house without walking through mud. Would consider staying again but wouldn't recommend it

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; In reply to the comments I am a little perplexed at the issue of the car parking. There are approximately five to six spaces for parking for the three cottages, but as the only car or cars were from the cottage in question, it means the occupants had a pick of anywhere to park and could park right next to the entrance and the lit cobbled path to the cottage. There was absolutely no necessity to park on grass which after the heavy winter rains can become slippery. The electricity is clearly marked as chargeable in the details and applicable in winter when margins are slim. There is a log burner which for £4 for a large wheelbarrow will keep the ground floor area cosy for at least a couple of days at a time. The only downside is that one has to light and feed the fire. In summer of course this is not an issue although it is still nice to have a cosy fire in some cool evenings.

Lovely location but not very clean and for what you paid having to pay for your own electricity I felt was a bit unreasonable
