Tawnawood is perfect for cyclists and walkers looking to explore the Cornish countryside and coastline.

Equidistant from both of Cornwall’s spectacular coastlines and nestling in delightful woodland, these thoughtfully converted barns are set in sunny, pleasantly landscaped gardens, each with its own patio. Retaining all the character and charm of original structural features, including exposed beams and stone walls, they have been furnished in keeping with their rustic simplicity. Tawnawood has a first floor landing and a door to a balcony with wonderful valley views. Peacefully positioned on a private drive beyond the owner’s home, and accessed by a narrow country lane, they enjoy fine views across the valley towards National Trust Lanhydrock House and its formal gardens. Lanhydrock House is 1¼ miles away and features several cycle trails, including a gentle trail for families throughout its grounds and into bluebell woods. There is also cycle hire, free parking and a café. Beaches of both the north and south coasts are about 15 miles away, some popular and offering fishing, sailing and surfing, others small and secluded; the coastal path is a continuous drama of cliff and sea and sky. There is excellent walking in the surrounding area and cycling in Cardinham Woods with dedicated, scenic cycle trails for those wanting more of a challenge, and an excellent café for refreshments. Restormel Castle and Lostwithiel, both 4 miles. Bodmin, 3 miles, has shops, cycle hire, swimming-pool, sports centre, inns, restaurants and golf. Bodmin Steam Railway can be heard in the distance within the valley. Riding locally. Wadebridge and Camel Trail cycle hire 7 miles. Padstow 12 miles, Fowey 10 miles and the Eden Project 8 miles. Shops 3 miles.

Living room with sofa bed and French windows. Dining room/kitchen. First floor: Landing and door to balcony with wonderful valley views. 2 bedrooms, 1 double (5ft), 1 twin, both with wooden floor. Bathroom with spa bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

Woodburner in living room (fuel at cost). Balcony.

Both properties: Electric heaters and electricity by meter reading. Bed linen included. Cot. High chair on request. Digital TV. DVD. Microwave. Shared utility room with washer/dryer and ‘fun’ table tennis. Patio and garden furniture. Shared garden. Shared barbecue. Parking. No smoking. Natural water supply from owner’s borehole.

The property is tired, cobwebs, damp, No washing up liquid, No cleaning products to clean up after ourselves. The wood burning stove doesn't burn properly, the whole house filled with smoke, chimney must be partially blocked. The two single beds very uncomfortable, and Duveys's lumpy. Broken floorboards in the bedroom. The bathroom taps turn off the wrong way. The bathroom was dated and tired. The property was so overgrown outside with vegetation that the property was constantly damp. It could be SO MUCH BETTER!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback though I am a little surprised, as the guest didn’t mention any of these issues except they were having a problem with the wood burning stove. Once they mentioned it I did attend to it, the baffle wasn’t in the right position which made the stove fill with smoke and once it was set at the right position it was working fine. This only happened on the first day they used the wood burner and I attended to it as soon as it was brought to my attention. I can confirm there is no damp, there is a vine at growing at the property, perhaps the guest is referring to that but it does not create damp, which has never been an issue. As the property is over 300 years old the floorboards have a patina which most people find attractive; they are not broken in any form.

Had a week at the cottage. The location was perfect, quite isolated, at the top of a steep hill, with farmers fields adjoining the cottage. As per the age of the cottage it was very rustic, which i loved, but there was in issue with cobwebs and overall cleanliness of the cottage. This didn't bother me as such but could be an issue for others. I enjoyed the whole week, lovely location with Cardinham Woods at the bottom of the hill, and easy driving distance to Padstow, Polzeath, Bodmin, Tintagel, Boscastle. Lanhydrock House close by is certainly worth a visit. The log fire kept my partner happy for the week and we enjoyed a fire every night, logs were very cheap. The kitchen was fitted with all the utensils you would need. The owner met us and said goodbye to us and left us to enjoy the place. Very relaxed, walking all around the cottage, livestock, log burner, peace and quiet. What more could you ask for?

Beautiful cottage, tucked away remotely up a steep, narrow track. Very private - there are two other cottages 'next door' but neither overlook the property. The cottage itself is full of character, very comfortable and homely. All appliances are present (fridge, freezer, oven, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, saucepans, cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery etc). Bed linen was also provided, you just need to take your own towels. Pleasant outside patio seating area with garden furniture provided. Nearest supermarket is Morrisons which also has a petrol station and is a 5-10 minute drive from the cottage. Could be tricky to get to in winter if icy though as the private track is steep, winding and narrow so be prepared. No problem if you have a 4x4 but be cautious if not and you book for winter. We would recommend and will stay again.

Nice holiday at a lovely, romantic and peaceful place. Only a pity that we never met the owner.
