The inside was clean ,living room spacious ,liked laundry area .However leaking tap in kitchen sink . Living room dark , need lighting on at all times. The outside let the property down. Courtyard very dirty paving over grown with moss and weeds very unattractive . The small front garden was the same , no gate for dog hence had to put dog on lead when letting her out !. The worst area was the parking very over grown our car sustained scratches ( on hedges/ bushes and the high built brick wall which was concealed behind the thick overgrown bushes/hedges. Following this incident We parked in the road outside the property .

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. As we have noted before, the pictures show parking available for a smallish car, people tend to offload, and then park. As they do the nature of the lounge, it can be dark but lots of lights are provided. The cottage was after all built in the early 1800's. The courtyard will be taken up with the housekeeper, gardener. Finally, the small garden is not secure; its natural boundary is a hedge. This was actually one of our first guests with pets, but unfortunately contrary to the agency terms, the garden was clearly used as a dog toilet and rather unpleasant to find and clear up.

It's a pretty cottage and a good location for sightseeing anywhere on the Isle of Wight. The lounge is nice and big and the main bedroom is a good double. The second bedroom is a small single with restricted headroom due to sloping ceiling Unfortunately the boiler broke down and we did not have hot water for 3 -4 days. The owners were very helpful and keen to get this resolved as quickly as possible. One of the valves was replaced but then the plumber switched off the central heating and we were cold for a couple of evenings until we managed to get instructions for turning it back on . There were no written instructions in the cottage except to not change any of the settings' . Given the price we paid for the cottage was a premium price, I was very disappointed that things had not been checked between tenancies and so things broke down and we weren't able to feel warm and cosy on several chilly wet evenings. The small amount of wood allowed for the wood burner seemed rather mean given the cost of the cottage and we didn't feel we wanted to waste our holiday finding and buying wood. The parking is for one car and a rather small car so opening the doors when in the parking spot is impossible making it difficult to load and unload

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. This unfortunate issue was rectified as soon as we were notified of the problem. Sadly the guest did not call to say there was a problem with the boiler until three days had elapsed. The housekeeper and previous guest had not raised this as an issue, so this really was a one off occurrence, and quickly fixed. Given the high standard of reviews generally, it is not reflective of the cottage experience as a whole. We would also note that firewood is provided for winter guests generally, and as the pictures show, the second bedroom does indeed have a sloping ceiling. The off-road parking provided is suitable for a smallish car. We find that any parking issues can be easily overcome if passengers on the wall side disembark before coming to a halt, or by parking in the road. We leave this to guests to decide which is most appropriate for their needs.

My sister and I were very happy with Sydney Lodge. All comforts were provided. Only one small thing was the grass needed cutting and the hedges need cutting back. The day we arrived it had rained heavily and getting out of the car resulted in a soaking from the wet bushes. My car is not big and I could park easily. Also the first couple of nights were quite cold and an extra blanket would have been appreciated.

Absolutely delight to stay there. Beautifully decorated, thanks for the fresh flowers and teas/coffee/biscuits/milk.. Lovely to make a cuppa straight as you enter :-) We had rather short time but loved it. Having a dishwasher was a blessing...

A gorgeous cottage, well presented and equipped with everything you need. Loved the mini library, the children spent ages in there. Driveway very tight but we managed with two children a quite a big car, just takes a bit of thinking about. The hot water was a bit temperamental as you need to have the hearing on really high whilst you shower to get constant hot water but this can easily be fixed. Second bedroom is a bit tight with two beds but again perfectly manageable for our three day stay. Loved having milk, tea, coffee and biscuits when we got there as well as the most fluffy towels.

Overall this is a nice, well equipped cottage in a good location, just out of town and with easy access to all areas of the lovely Isle of Wight. The cottage is full of character, with loads of space inside and two separate outside garden/patio areas. The main bedroom is very large and comfy and has a delightful bay window with a window seat. The second bedroom is very small though. The living room has two very large sofas and a huge dining table. You could entertain a lot of people in this place if you chose to. There is even a charming little library tucked away under the stairs. Now the negatives... If I'm honest, it could be cleaner. I know this is a country cottage, but for 5 stars I expect it to be pretty much spotless, and it wasn't. The plumbing. A few people have mentioned in the visitors book that the bath is very slow to drain but nothing has apparently been done about it. I don't expect to be standing in 3 inches of water when I take a shower... This issue should be fixed and at the same time perhaps the bathroom could be updated?
