Luckily we were staying here for work but I would unfortunately not recommend this property for a holiday stay. The lodge is small - more like a caravan than a house - with a lot of plastic finishes, but it is clean and well laid out. The main problem, that the owners do not list, is that there are pigs on the farm, in fact right behind the lodges. In hot weather the smell of pig muck is really unpleasant. We couldn't decide whether to keep the windows closed and swelter or open the windows and suffer the horrible smell. It made sitting outside deeply unpleasant. We are sheep farmers so are not unused to the odd smell but this was horrible for a holiday property. Traffic noise can also be heard very clearly from the lodge plus dogs barking at the nearby kennels. The location is good for Harrogate and sightseeing but beware of the smell in warm weather. Also a real hike to nearest pub across a very busy road.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; It is always unfortunate that we cannot sort any problems out with the customers when they are actually staying. The Pig smell isn't from the pigs that are on the farm, they are baby pigs and don't create much smell. There are no pigs directly behind the Lodges. It is the fact that some parts of the year we have to put manure onto the land, and after we have harvested this is what we do. It was just unfortunate it fell that week. The smell only lasts for two to 3 days, and if the wind is in the right direction it doesn't affect the holiday lodges at all. With us living in the countryside our neighbours could do the same and we have no control over smells at all. It all depends on peoples smell, the other lodge that were staying were sat out and asked for the parasol. We try to do all we can for our guests whether on holiday or working, but sometimes it’s hard to please everybody. We do hope that other people that do have problems come to us direct and we trust future guests will read our other feedback for a more balanced and positive review of our property.

The cottage was excellent. Very clean, well equipped and warm on a very cold week. Lots of information on areas of interest even though out of date. Only small criticism would be the sofa in the lounge was very low and old. With cranky knees impossible to get out of. Otherwise highly recommended.

The lodge was fine but dark. One of the pictures showed a lodge with open lawn but actually was surrounded by trees. The lounge furniture was uncomfortable and there were no instructions for the washer-drier or the oven and hob. The lodge is very conveniently located but we did not look forward to returning to it at the end of the day, hence we left for home a day early.
