This holiday property is located on the edge of the Quantocks, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Sweet Briar Cottage is situated in the small Village of Holford, a lovely picturesque village on the edge of the Quantocks, about 14 miles from Bridgwater. This semi-detached holiday cottage is in the perfect location for all year round breaks - having a woodburner in the living room makes it perfect for cosy evenings in. There are many walks from the cottage, and from the bridge, guests can see two streams converging, one of which has flowed from Holford Combe and the other from Hodders Combe. It was in this glen that the Huguenots settled and began their silk weaving factory. Holford Glen was also used during the filming of the film ’Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves’ starring Kevin Costner. The Quantock Hills (AONB) are an area of wilderness and tranquillity. Panoramic views lead you through coast, heath and combe. Explore and you will find rocky Jurassic coastline, exposed heathland summits, deep wooded combes, undulating farmland and attractive villages all within this protected landscape. The cottage is a short drive (or a fabulous 2½ mile walk) from the village of Nether Stowey, with its range of shops and pubs. Places of interest include Coleridge Cottage and Dunster Castle (both NT), the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury Tor, Wells Cathedral, Cheddar Gorge and Taunton. Beach 2 miles. Shop 2½ miles, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

Ground floor: Living room. 2 steps to kitchen with dining area. First floor: 1 double bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Woodburner in living room (initial fuel included). Electric heaters, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot. Freeview TV. DVD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Enclosed courtyard with sitting-out area and furniture. On road parking. No smoking.

This is a lovely cottage in a small village with access to the Quantocks from the front door. There is a small and pretty courtyard garden which is a lovely place to relax after a day's walking. There is a local pub within walking distance and very nice local hotel providing morning coffee and cream teas with a wifi signal available . However, like so many places that we have stayed in over the years, the living room (which because it was a cottage was understandably quite dark) lacked sufficient lights for reading in the evenings. The TV in the lounge was also quite small although the TV in the bedroom was an unexpected bonus. It would also be nice if there was a bistro set available to sit in the lovely courtyard garden.

Lovely little cottage in a stunning part of the country, perfect for couples who love exploring the countryside. The Quantock Hills and the coastline are within easy walking distance.

Sweet Briar is a charming little cottage. Plus points:- *A warm welcome ( milk and dog biscuits a nice touch ) * surprisingly roomy (especially downstairs) and some nice period features *Farm fresh eggs 30 yards from the front door each morning. * The pub down the end of the road (decent beer and excellent good value food) * peaceful. tranquil location * enclosed (small) garden Minus points:- * got a little chilly and might well be 'challenging' in winter * if you can't survive without technology then the absence of wi fi and poor mobile signal will be frustrating. (2 hours free wi fi at the pub though) * difficult for dog owners to keep your dog clean (an outside tap or hose to attach to kitchen taps would have been useful ) * the front door virtually opens out on the road .( There's very little passing traffic but cars can come round the corner unexpectedly . Keep dogs on a short /tight lead when leaving the property) Overall... The owner has done a really good job in making Sweet Briar Cottage a relaxing ' home from home'. Holford is v quiet ( no shops) but it's a good base from which to explore the area. We enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing break and hope you do too.

We had a great time here & will definitely be back. The walks are lovely the dog especially loved it. There were enough logs to get you started but we had brought our own. Only spoke to the owner on the phone but he was very nice & gave me all the info I needed. There is a little box opposite the cottage selling fresh farm eggs, they are lovely! Pub 2 minutes walk if that. Thanks for a wonderful weekend.
