Description

Set in an AONB perfect for a relaxing holiday and also for walking and spotting wildlife in abundance in this area.

Set in the unspoilt village of Bothenhampton about a mile from Bridport and the new harbour of West Bay, where the TV series "Broadchurch" was filmed, and its beaches. The historic rope-making town of Bridport with its twice weekly market is a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast, England’s only natural World Heritage Site. Sweet Briar (ref 8234) and Buzzards (ref 8235, first floor) are in the east wing of an old country house and Farthings (ref 19292) is in the west. The holiday properties have views over the fields and woodland of the Dorset Downs. Many badgers have made their sets in the hill behind, and there is an abundance of wildlife. For the past few years holidaymakers in Sweet Briar (ref 8234) and Buzzards (ref 8235) have been able to watch a family of deer grazing in the adjacent fields and during the summer months, bats put on an amazing aerial display. Perfect for relaxing or more invigorating walking holiday in this AONB, which includes extensive NT land. Chesil Beach, one of the finest barrier beaches, begins at West Bay. Lyme Regis with its Cobb and the famous fossil beach at Charmouth are close by. Not far away is the ancient town of Dorchester with its Iron Age hill fort and Roman town house and many other sites of historic interest. Spend a day at Abbotsbury Swannery, the only place in the world where you can walk among the baby swans (hatching from May). Golf course and leisure centre nearby. Bike hire available locally. Ideal for exploring the Jurassic Coast or for just relaxing in this tranquil village. Shop, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

All on ground floor: Living room with French doors. Dining room/kitchen. 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 single. Shower room with toilet.

Gas central heating included. Freesat TV. DVD. Electric cooker. Washing machine. Tumble dryer. Dishwasher. Fridge/freezer. Enclosed garden and furniture. No children under 5 years.

All properties: Electricity, bed linen and towels included. Microwave. Wi-fi. Parking (1 car). No smoking.

The owner was very welcoming leaving us with gorgeous scones On first appearance the cottage looks fantastic but it was very cold due to the tiled floors through out the mattress in the double bedroom was so uncomfortable that we lost sleep and the lounge was a bit disappointing in comfort for a winter break and no rainy day books jigsaws or games to play with From the photograph on the website we were expecting a view from the Cottage but no view but good location for beachcombing

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are so glad that you enjoyed the cream tea which we provide as a welcome for all our guests. We spoke when you arrived about the floor tiles throughout the property which are ideal for guests with dogs as there is no need to worry about muddy paws on carpets. I showed you how to use the thermostat to control the temperature as the central heating is on 24 hours a day but noticed after departure that it was on a low setting. It’s a shame I was not contacted at the time as I could have sorted this right away and you would have soon been warm. The mattress on the double bed is an Eversham mattress from Laura Ashley and is a recent addition. This mattress gives good support on the Laura Ashley double bedstead with slatted base, though we understand that this is a subjective matter. In the sitting room there is a Laura Ashley sofa and leather chair all with cushions. The view from the property is across an organic farm, the largest in Dorset, to the hill behind. The weather was typical for the time of year and was foggy most of the time and there are games and books provided which are perfect for these kinds of days, so we do not understand your comment about these.

The owners are lovely, The place is immaculate, The Downside is when theirs people upstairs you can here them talking, snoring, going to the loo. Such a shame as it is lovely . That's the only reason we won't go back I'm afraid, came home 2 Days early as couldn't sleep as their was a Bear snoring up stairs.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We are so pleased that you thought Sweet Briar immaculate and we enjoyed chatting with you during your stay. It is ideal for guests with dogs, taking up to 3 per holiday. It is tiled throughout and so there is no concern about muddy or sandy dogs as the floor is easily cleaned. There is also a secure garden. The beds are from Laura Ashley and John Lewis and there are leather armchairs. There is a modern kitchen with integrated appliances. The spacious shower room is a recent addition with an easy access shower with a step of just 11cm from the floor. Guests return year after year as they find Sweet Briar an ideal holiday property. The guests in the flat above at the time of your holiday booked a much shorter stay and had already left long before you decided to leave early.

Very enjoyable holiday at Sweet Briar. The property was comfortable, warm and spotlessly clean. Bridport is a good centre to explore the area. The owner was both friendly an d helpful. We enjoyed the cream tea which we found on our arrival! Our dog loved the garden.

This is a well thought out property which is light, bright and clean. It is the first property we have stayed in that has had a garden secure enough for our small Jack Russell to be safe in as it was walked all the way round. Whilst the walk down to the beach is a mile away, the route there is off road and a nice stroll. The owners were on hand, if needed but not intrusive. A lovely property and well worth return visit as the local area had lots of dog friendly places to visit.

Beautiful and clean apartment, with a lovely little garden for the dogs. Plenty of walks either to the beach or in the country side. The owners were lovely and the welcome scones were delicious 😋 Everything was clean and the week was enjoyable. The only niggle we had was people staying above us for the first few nights made a lot of noise, it was like they were wearing boots all the time walking across the floor! But the latter part of the week different guests it was fine. Sound proof flooring might be worth investing for those guests!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: We are so glad that you enjoyed your holiday at Sweet Briar and liked the countryside and the beaches. We were aware of the noise from the flat above and spoke to the holidaymakers. They were taking part in a dance competition and had moved all the furniture to the sides of the sitting room and spent most of their holiday practicing their dance. This is why they were so noisy and hopefully this will not happen again.

Lovely cottage, nice garden and sit out area. The cottage was very clean with a nice welcoming cream tea. Would certainly recommend. Very nicely and easily located with great access to amenities. Morrisons was a 15 min walk away, and 20 mins into Bridport.
