Walk through the heather; look out for red deer, ponies and buzzards. The properties are ideally situated for exploring the area. To the west are some of the country’s finest beaches at Woolacombe and Putsbourgh. At Ilfracombe there is the harbour area, Landmark Theatre and an good range of shops and amenities. Visit the Combe Martin Wildlife Park and Watermouth Castle. Travelling east, take a trip into Dunster, 10 miles, and visit the historic yarn market and castle. Minehead, with its sandy beach, is 18 miles. Take in all the small villages close by, such as Blue Anchor, Watchet and Old Cleave and the many NT properties waiting to be explored. A great location, and the basic building was very charming, but let down by the lack of cleanliness and the outdated scruffy furniture which was in a poor state (big rip in sofa). I appreciate that some people might find this quality of accommodation OK because their standards are different (and some of the comments in the visitor book seem to support that), but my own standards and tastes lead me to expect something better. I suppose it's all down to personal taste. Electrical PAT testing was 15 months out of date on kettle according to label. Video remote control was not compatible with the VDU unit and made it extremely difficult to operate. Two of the kitchen lights not working. The caretaker/owner Peter was very helpful and polite, but that doesn't excuse a lack of basic checks that should be carried out by any cottage owner who is letting, and correcting any problems before a letting starts. One shouldn't have to complain about things like this, either to the owner at the time, or in a review.

Whilst the cottage has been well modernized it is compromised by a lack of soundproofing from the unit above. Creaking floorboards and intrusive stair noise from a poorly designed stairwell in the living room were a constant irritation. Parking and access was poor, with a very poorly surfaced access road and difficult gate. The outside space was uninviting and seemed almost half finished. The unit was very clean and well equipped with thought being given to essentials.
