Description

Delightful former barn with stunning views over the Esk Valley

Swallow Cottage is nestled in the beautiful Esk Valley with stunning views over Westerdale and open countryside. This former barn has been lovingly converted into a warm spacious cottage retaining its original features like the exposed stone wall and beautiful beamed ceilings. It has been furnished and decorated to a particularly high standard and is an ideal setting for a peaceful and tranquil holiday. There are some excellent pathways in the area for keen ramblers and dog owners, direct from your front door. A scenic drive along the country roads takes you to some pretty villages dotted around the North Yorkshire Moors, and also to the historic port of Whitby, with its quaint cobbled streets, magnificent Abbey and not to mention its famous Fish and Chips. The Victorian seaside town of Saltburn is only a short drive away, with its golden sandy beach and lovely promenade, ideal for a stroll on a warm summer evening. The North Yorkshire Moors steam train is a great day for everyone, travelling from Whitby to the market town of Pickering stopping at Grosmont and Goathland (also known as Heartbeat Country) along the way.

Had a peaceful and relaxing time in this beautiful luxury cottage. The friendly owner Helen was available if we needed her but respected our privacy. The cottage was exceptionally well equipped and was decorated to a very high standard. Helen has obviously put a lot of love and care into providing everything you could possibly need and more. Upstairs was very cosy but adequate for a couple or small family and downstairs was open plan and spacious. Outside their is a lovely fenced garden looking out onto open countryside with patio furniture and solar lights. Helen has two donkeys and two gorgeous pigs who enjoyed a carrot everyday. She also has various other animals including a beautiful dog called Oakley. This is not a working farm so wasn't noisy but the donkey could be heard every now and again letting you know he was ready for his daily feed. We thought it was enchanting and by the end of our holiday we were stress free and ready to face the real world once again. Would love to go back. Highly recommend.

Wow. Absolutely amazing place. Clean, stunning and has everything you could possibly need, and more! We had the best UK break, ever. The welcome basket and presents for our girls were lovely, so thoughtful and made the arrival extra special and exciting. My girls loved the supply of carrots too, so they could feed Dandy and Buttercup (donkeys) each morning and Delila and Bertie (the cute little pigs). My girls loved all the animals and Oakley the super friendly dog, and broke their hearts leaving, wishing we could stay forever. We had a couple of trips out but we were also comfortable staying in for lazy days. Playing with the cottage toys, reading books, watching DVD's and listening to music. Despite the cold weather we were nice and cosy, with underfloor heating. There was lots of information on everything we needed in and out of the cottage and nothing was too much trouble for the owner. In terms of location it's in the middle of the Yorkshire Moors and the views are fabulous. Even my 2 young girls loved the views and peaceful surroundings. We cannot wait to return. Highly recommended

The best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. Helen, the owner, and all the animals made it a truly memorable time.
