English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Visit vineyards and historic houses all easily accessible, or leave the car behind and enjoy walking along the Vanguard Way.

Sunnymead Cottages (ref PGZ and PHA) are situated in the High Weald village of High Hurstwood, a designated AONB. Set in a landscape of undulating pastures, they provide a peaceful retreat. Converted to a very high standard and adjoining one another; Pippins provides ground floor accommodation and Russets has ground and first floor accommodation. They lie at the end of 220 yards of private drive, amid 12 acres of gardens and orchards in the grounds of the owners’ house. The grounds are a haven for wildlife; birds, deer and badgers are regular visitors. Each cottage has its own garden area in which to sit out and unwind. The nearby Bluebell Steam Railway makes frequent journeys from Sheffield Park, with its period railway station. A great day out can also be enjoyed in Ashdown Forest, under two miles away and a refuge for wildlife. It offers opportunities for walking, riding and picnics. If guests do not feel like taking the car out, there is direct access onto a public footpath just outside the garden and the Vanguard Way is only 10 minutes’ walk away. Local wines can be sampled at various vineyards in the vicinity. There is easy access to historic houses including Glyndebourne Opera House, the spa town Tunbridge Wells and 1066 country. There is also much to see along the coast where shops, bars and restaurants beckon in Brighton and Eastbourne. The nearest railway station is only 6 minutes’ drive with direct access to London in just over one hour. Shop 2 miles, pub serving good food just a 5-minute walk.

This was an idyllic little cottage in very quiet surroundings. The owners made me very welcome and explained all the features. I spent 11 days relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet. I didn't venture out much but when I did, there were lovely walks to be had on the doorstep or a short car ride away. The house is superbly equipped and lovely and warm even in a chilly January.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are very fortunate to live in such peaceful surroundings and to have such lovely walks just on our doorstep plus the Vanguard Way just a short stroll away and the Ashdown Forest a couple of miles up the road. We like to think that our guests are kept nice and warm on their visits during the winter months. Many thanks for your review.

We enjoyed out week at Russets, the cottage was lovely and the area was outstanding. We would definitely stay there again. It was close to everything we wanted to see and the owner was a lovely person and very welcoming.

A nice location a clean property but space and configuration of the dwelling leaves a lot to be desired, only the bedroom is appropriate in the size matters, the kitchen is small but ample the sitting room is small and the seating is inferior and very low,the en suite is in the eve's so for tall people it is a problem. The sitting room is up very steep stairs, the owners were very friendly and easy to talk too, On reflection I think the property adjoining would have been the better choice as it's all on one level,I realise the property is marketed as a cottage, but for me again no too many minuses.
