This traditional Minehead cottage is situated 5 minutes’ walk from the West Somerset Steam Railway station, beach, shops and restaurants.

Situated 5 minutes’ walk from the West Somerset Steam Railway station, beach, shops and restaurants, this traditional Minehead terraced cottage offers an ideal base for a seaside holiday. The start of the South West Coastal Path, promenade and harbour are 10 minutess’ walk as are footpaths to surrounding Exmoor. There are regular bus services to places such as Porlock, Lynton and Lynmouth. A visit to the medieval Dunster Castle (NT) with its beautiful terraced gardens, deer park and mill make for an interesting day out. There are further beaches at Dunster and Blue Anchor. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

    Lots of positives about the property. Very well situated for town and beach, and close to Exmoor. Spacious living area and well-equipped kitchen. However, parking at the rear of the property wasn't at all easy. I consider myself pretty good at reverse parking, but it was a total nightmare, and so was driving out the next morning. My car is wider than average, so maybe that was why, but with a car parked in front of the garage next door, a solid brick wall in front and a metal post at the right, there was no way I was going to attempt that ordeal a second time. Also, the property had a stale smell when we arrived. I doubt it had been freshly cleaned on the day of our arrival. Many of the plates and a lot of the cutlery had dried food on them. The sofa wasn't comfortable to sit on for long, and after a long day of walking on the moors, I would have really liked a comfortable sofa. However, we enjoyed our stay, despite being woken up by next door's loud music after midnight and their bright lights shining through the back bedroom window.

    There are many comments in the holiday comments book in the house that the owners need to look at in order to make the house a better place to stay. Having said that, it was a very good property and we would be likely to stay there again.

    Nice house in good location. Would benefit from having a sign at the rear to identify the property in the dark. WiFi and some home comforts (e.g. tea bags, coffee sachets) would make it perfect.

    Great location in heart of Minehead. Cottage could do with a little TLC (sticking locks, etc) but great for accessing local amenities. Steam train trip recommended - why not ride to Bishops Lydeard, visit the Mill and have lunch at the excellent Lethbridge Arms? A walk to the harbour and uphill to the church (visible for the front bedroom window) a delight with its thatched cottages and quiet lanes. No 28 bus takes you along the coast to Dunster - well worth a visit with its medieval town and NT castle. Exmoor a short drive away with superb scenery, wildlife and walks. Plenty to occupy visitors returning to the area.

    It was in an ideal place for the shops and the seafront. Unfortunately my daughter couldn't get her car in the parking space at the back so she was always trying to get a space at the front of the house. I feel that there should have been some instructions on the recycling. We did our best but we only have house waste and garden waste bins at home and a box for bottles and cans.

    We had a good holiday and Summerlands is in a good location. The only parts we had a gripe with are beds as they were awful. The finish of the property could have been better. The outside are needs improvement.

    The positive points are that this is a well equipped holiday home in a great location. However, it was a shame that a couple of aspects (easily rectifiable) let it down. Firstly the cleanliness, we found baking trays full of grease in the oven as well as dog hairs on floor and furniture which suggested it wasn't cleaned properly prior to our arrival. Secondly, the lack of a full owners pack. There was some limited information in folder but it would have been nice if the owner included some recommendations on places to go as well as when bins were collected, nearest doctors, pharmacist etc. Just some care and attention to detail would make this a really great holiday home.

    Really good location but we felt lack of garden and neighbours noise from either side spoilt our outside space .good to have parking but it was a tight space and means you lose garden space which looks a bit unloved and neglected. Double bed needs a new mattress and a summer duvet and take towels as the ones provided are not great .A few little tweaks could make this a really good holiday home.
