Description

With stunning views of the Fells, this Lakeland cottage is wonderfully situated to discover the southern Lake District.

Enjoying a very rural aspect with wonderful panoramic views, and set in ¾ acre of cottage garden this holiday home is wonderfully situated to discover the Lake District. Summerhill Cottage dates back to the 16th-century and is an idyllic, Lakeland cottage with character features around every corner. Standing detached, the property enjoys beamed ceilings, oak wooden floors, low doorways and delightful features that are dotted throughout. A large inglenook fireplace to the main, spacious living room adds an interesting mix of contemporary design, whilst the doors open out onto a patio area offering stunning views of the surrounding area towards the Lakeland Fells. The cottage is full of charm and atmosphere with cosy rooms and comfortable furnishings, and an original cast-iron range graces the farmhouse-style kitchen, which leads into the entrance/breakfast room. The local area gives access to splendid walks, and one that must be experienced includes wonderful views as Lake Windermere (2 miles) is approached. Alternatively, a 15-minute drive leads into the heart of the bustling towns of both Windermere and Kendal, where many of the local attractions can be enjoyed. Summerhill Cottage makes a superb central base for exploring the Lake District, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Shop and pub 1 mile.

This property didn't disappoint. It was as represented in the pictures etc. Very characterful, nice quiet spot, lots of space, lovely garden, exceptionally well equipped. Nice pub for food within one kilometre. Nice helpful owner when we contacted him with a query. Would definitely come again. We are already talking about revisiting next year. Only problem was, be aware there are very low beams and doorways. All the men in our group banged their heads hard at some point and there was definitely a minor concussion on one occasion. Other things to note: Poor phone reception (wave it around your head at the bottom of the garden). A bonus was the wi-fi though, which we weren't expecting. It was quite slow though, don't expect to have four happy teenagers streaming at once. Got four cars in the driveway at one point, but requires good manoeuvring skills to get in and out.

I'm going to be honest here, we've stayed at Summerhill Cottage more than once before. Why do we return? Because it is a fabulously comfortable cottage in a idealic location within the Lake District. It is warm, comfortable, with all mod cons. We hope to return in the future, though unfortunately it's usually out of our price range in the high season.

What a lovely homely feeling this house has. There was everything you could need for an enjoyable relaxing holiday. Stunning views, lovely locals, lovely place to return to at the end of a sight seeing day. The wonderful open fire was a bonus, only used one but there were two fires if needed. The bird table was always busy, just had to watch out for the greedy squirrel though but he was quite amusing. The handsome Mr Grouse and his 5 females seem very tame too, a good time was had by all.
