These three charming holiday cottages (refs SGD, SAAF and UYN) are located within the extensive grounds of Aswanley, in the River Deveron Valley. All are peacefully set in secluded locations, enjoying uninterrupted views across beautiful scenery and each has a large LCD TV and its own private garden. The proximity to the River Deveron makes the cottages ideal for fly fishing holidays, especially for those trying trout or salmon fly fishing for the first time, and there are deep pools for swimming. Visitors can explore the area on foot or on mountain bikes - the Moray Monster Trails are 20 miles away. The famous Whisky Trail is nearby and many of the distilleries offer guided tours and the chance to sample the local malts - the local inn has a collection of over 700 bottles of finest whisky! Straitinnan is extremely comfortable, well-equipped and beautifully situated. A minor plumbing problem, and a very minor equipment issue were rectified immediately. It would be wise to keep a check on consumption of electricity. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather and had a really super week.

Overall we had a great holiday and the cottage was in a wonderful location. We were disappointed with having to pay for extra electricity costs on top of the price to hire the cottage. The cottage is in a beautiful glen and was only 5 miles away from Huntly where there are major supermarkets, cafes, petrol stations and railway services available. We did have to use the washing machine a couple of times and found trying to put washing powder and fabric conditioner into the draw a big problem due to the fact that there is a sink blocking the draw!! Had to tilt the washing machine to open draw slightly to get anything in it. The radiators are all on timers so you have to check them otherwise they could be on times when you don't need them on.

This is our second visit to Straitinnan, and once again we were not disappointed. The addition of the downstairs shower room since our last visit was a bonus. The location is excellent with superb views over the valley and Aswanley estate. This cottage makes an excellent base to explore the Aberdeenshire countryside and the Cairgorm national park.
